I've been working on this for 5 hours now...tourettes is kicking in big time and i'm frustrated beyond belief.
I cannot get any sound from my system. the only hardware change is that i'm now using a Maxtor Atlas 15k drive as my primary drive. It's connected via an LSI 21320 Ultra320 SCSI PCI card.
I did a fresh install of WinXP, installed the latest drivers for my Asus a7v600 board, double checked that onboard sound is enable in BIOS but still no sound...
When i run the SoundMAX Digital Integrated Audio app, i get the following error:
"Audio is disabled or DirectSound is unavailable."
In my Control Panel/Sound and Audio Devices panel, it simply says "No Audio Device"
I uninstalled the drivers and rebooted and windows immediately says New Hardware Found. It picks up my audio hardware no problem. I've done this many times now (always removing drivers before installing any new ones). I've let windows decide which drivers to install, i've used the ones on my motherboard cd and i've used the updated ones from the ASUS site. they all install fine and tell me that my hardware is working fine and is ready for use, but i still have the same damn error messages about no audio devices, even after a reboot after installing the drivers.
What am i missing here? I've done clean installs on this system before, except it was on an IDE drive, and NEVER had this issue (or any other to be honest).
Can someone offer some ideas? have a similar problem? i simply cannot express how pissed off i am right now....
