I have a Vantec HSF with the Delta 38cfm fan and my PC sounds like a jet taking off. What can I use to keep the sound down and not make the heat go up alot or be a big mess??

You could try getting one of the fans on the new Thermaltake Volcano II's. www.sidewindercomputers.com will be selling the fans seperately soon. These fans push 36 cfm, but they only make about 31 dB of noise. This is as quiet as a mouse compared to the Delta which is 46 dB.

I suggest replacing the Delta fan with a low-to-medium-output 80mm fan on a 60->80 adapter. Have a look at what 006agent is selling in For Sale/Trade: 60->80 adapters They look pretty beefy and are $13 plus shipping for one with no fan. For quiet fans, I would try Teamawe.com for the Panaflos, or phamcomputer.com for the Addas, or there is PC Power & Cooling's silencer, pcpowercooling.com or directron.com have the Silencer. I'm prejudiced toward the Panaflo L1A but the Adda has a bit more rated output and still is under 23dB... super quiet. The Sunon low-noise model made too much motor whirr for me, don't like that one's noise level.

Phamcomputer says the fan on the Volcano II doesn't seem to bear out the promise of 36cfm at 31dB, if you have a look at their front page remarks.

I never did believe that the 36 cfm 31 db could be a reality.. It was just to good to be true for now I guess.

Ok, try this first: run the fan at 7 volts. It won't cost anything and is something you can undo. To accomplish this, you will need to attach the fan's black wire to the red wire on the power-supply harness. Another option is to go halfway and put a new fan on the heatsink.

I tried some stuff like that Vblock. Don't waste your time if you have a Delta38 fan in there.
