I bought a load of inexpensive CD-RW media and my Plextor 8/4/32A does not allow more than 2x recording speed with them. This seems to be because the drive cannot see wich brand name the media is (verified with Plextor software). I think that sucks and wonder if there is some way around it. I would even consider trying a hacked Firmware that opened up the record speed options regardless of media identification, if such would exist.
I have tried all available firmwares for that unit, and a handful of different recording programs, but it's all the same everywhere. I know that the media itself is in fact capable of being recorded to at 4x speed, so the media is not the problem. I got an answer from Plextor support on the matter and they suggested that a) Adaptec Easy CD Creator could probably get around the problem (id didn't) and b) that I should use some other brand of media, wich I of course do not want to.
Any tips would be appreciated.
