Just build my comp 3 weeks ago and i got my first seriouse problem today.

I've been using an external US Robotics 56k Voicemodem and decided to switch to my US Robotics 56 INTENAL Modem that i'm using right now. I thought it was a piece of cake because i already built my comp so i opened up my system and pluged the card in. Then i connected all the plugs and booted it up. It didn't detect my "usb logitech mousman wheel 4button" and keyboard so i had to press the button to shut down. Then i had to go to safe mode (this part i dont remember well). I got the keyboard to work because i saw the caps lock light up but then since it was improperly shut down i had to scan the c drive or something and it stoped at %3 and restarted and then it didnt even go to 1% but right after the windows screen it kept restarting. I got pissed and pulled out the modem and tried again and same thing happend. After alot of tried i got to press exit on the scan disk drive and i went to safe mode. Mouse still wouldnt be detected so i shut down and put my ps2 plug on my usb mouse and it still wouldnt work and made a funny noise after after the windows screen and restarted. I tried my old ps2 serial mouse and same thing, a funny noise and restarting. This is getting annoying someone plz help me! Thanks

Sounds like either your HD died or you knocked the HD cable out of the sockets a little. Can you access the BIOS? if so see if your HD is being detected properly. If not go the HD man web site and download there disk diagnosis program. Hope some of this helps.

in the system properties, delete the modem(s) and restart. also, use F8 to boot to command prompt only and then use scandisk. (better than thru windows)

I do get to see the system boot up and everything is normal it shows my geforce2 then my hardrive and it keeps going fine until the windows screen shows up and after a few mins it restarts and does the same thing over and over. I took the plug off the harddrive and then pluged it tight and tried again and the screen to go to safe mode came up. It loaded up and then a msg that it doesnt detect a mouse came up and it also wouldnt detect my usb keyboard so I turned off the comp and tried again and i was back to step one

BTW everything on my system is retail execpt my harddrive which i think might be casuing this with my mouse

This all happend by trying to install my internal robotics modem which works fine in my old computer that i'm using now.

Also the specs in the bottom are from my new computer that wont load windows. The one i'm using is a 2 year old comp. In the begining of this problem i got lucky and went to safe mode and saw everything fine and tried restarting and then problem started again. Some help please.

I would try what pyr said. Go into safe mode and delete the modem from the System properties. My first thought was that the internal modem was trying to get an irq held by another peripheral. See if you have any irq conflicts. Deleting the modem out of thhe system should get rid of the conflict if there is one.

Now the question is how do i go into safe mode? The only two times I got in was by luck that the msg screen to go to safe mode poped up.

i kept pressing F8 and got to the safe mode option. I went into safe mode and it still wouldn't detect my mouse....
Anyways with my keyord i went to control panel, system and erased my external modem from there in sustem devices i think then restarted and same thing keeps happening

well at least this means my harddrive is working right? Becuase i dont wanna lose all the stuff i got in my hd if i have to reformat which i dont wanna do! PLZ PLZ PLz I need help.

Ok, this may sound just like what everyone else has suggested but here goes:

1. Go to safe mode
2. remove all modems, mouses, and any other drivers that are associated with these parts that are causing problems
3. shut down and remove modems
4. try windows in normal mode

If this doesnt solve your problem try:

Getting the HD scanner from the manufacturer and see if there is anything wrong with it, although it doesnt seem like your problems have anything at all to do with your HD.

Where is your SB Live? When I had mine in any other PCI slot than the top one, windows would not start, try putting SB live in the top PCI slot and dont have any uneccisarry parts, ie modem.

Once you have the system working you can try adding the modem, if you get the problems again..... then you've found your source
