yeah, not a fan of BFG...they are a lot of "show" and not a lot of substance...I have OC'd a number of cards of the last few years, and generally had poor-ok results with BFG cards...id stick with MSI, Asus or Gainward (most recommended)...just my luck...but i dont recommend them myself

While Gainward makes good cards, their support is iffy at the moment due to their North American headquarters/branch being shut down.

I've just seen quite a bit of stuff that leads me to believe PNY uses low quality components. Sure there are plenty of people who have gotten good cards from them as well though.

XFX I won't recommend because I remember reading threads where it was all but impossible to even contact their support (wrong phone numbers, no one answers the phone, etc).

BFG has excellent, and I'd probably be willing to say, the best customer service. ATi would be second, but you won't be able to get a 6600GT from them.

Asus, Gigabyte, MSI, and the other more motherboard based companies are all ok for the most part from what I've seen.

Leadtek is good as well.

pny and xfx both are terrible compared to other brands like evga. I'd sayy that evga and bfg have the best service.

Seems like most responses that trash a certain brand is mostly hearsay and provides no proof. These "legends" are spread through threads like this with 90% of the information opinions and not actual stats. I will be doubtful until someone here shows me proof that one brand such as XFX is worst than others. How is it worst than another. Please dont post with a ..." I had a friend... yada yada." and please dont blame the mfg for card failure when you push it out of specs (as someone have posted in the past).

Come to think of it, I have never had any video card fail nor do I know anyone who has dating back to the triden cards.

If you want proof, hover around the video forums all day and watch the threads. Video card problem threads BY FAR have been XFX. I also don't trust PNY because of the CompUSA debacle where a good handful of people were reporting floating capacitors in their boxes, in addition to blurry 2D quality. When you get people complaining of poor 2D quality on their cards, that can sometimes be a sign of cheap components.

+1

Hang around here a few months, you'll see how often people have XFX cards croak out on them.

And yeah, that PNY/CompUSA capacitor debacle knocked me off their brand forever (as well as the higher than normal level of problem threads concerning PNY as well).

XFX probably uses the reference nvidia design, so if they suck, so does nvidia's reference design. I personally own a 6800GT that artifacted, but the replacement I got from XFX works just fine, so I'm not complaining. I don't have any problems buying another XFX or PNY. They're all about the same really.

YOu can use the reference design but sub in subpar components and turn the card into utter crap. BFG is my brand of choice for now.

bfg rocks! i have one right now, the lifetime warranty is awesome incase it craps out. go bfg, evga or gainward. tell you the truth, there all the same nvidia GPU, all have the same memory type and size, and all have teh same specs. its the physical appearnace and people who make the actuall silicon boards that differ. maybe the heatsink, board color and way the monitor plugs are different too. but no card is "bad," its the deals and friendlyness of the comany u want.

True, but do you have any proof that they are using subpar components? What components, and what brand/models of those components are you talking about? I'm not hearing of any bursting caps or spontaneous GPU combustion.

Good to know this stuff.
I was thinking about getting a PNY Ultra because it was soooo cheap compared to others. I usually stick to ZipZoomFly and NewEgg but I wanted to get something FAST! Good thing I held my nutz and ran out the store empty handed

EDIT: Maybe I should rephrase that last line...
BTW, I'm also looking for a good priced dual-DVI AGP 6600GT or Ultra if its around $350

if ($x == "best" && $x == "AGP" && $x == "dual-DVI" && $price != "bullzhiat") {
$x = "WHAT!!!!??!??!?!??!?"
}

Actually, I have a PNY 6800GT and it's very quality. As for their warranty honoring, the one I'm using now was actually an RMA from them. They have a skeleton support team, and it wasn't exactly prompt, but they did replace it. I would still go with MSI/eVGA/BFG though.

I wouldnt buy from XFX or PNY because they sell them at walmart/best buy/circuit city/etc...usually, you want to avoid that type of stuff.

I'd just get a leadtek (of whatever you're getting) if possible.

They sell Samsung monitors at those places, but does that mean they're bad? No.
