Looking for a nice romantic w/e for our anniversary and thinking of the Poconos.

Wife loves the cool/crazy looking pools, tubs etc from some of the hotels (ie Caesars) etc.

My question is where to stay for a decent price to get this kind of stuff AND what else is there to do in the Poconos (WE DO NOT SKI).

Going right after tax season ends 4/17/09 - 4/19/09.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions or advice.

Greg

You don't ski, but would you be open to snow tubing? I think most of the mountains probably have tubing by now.

Edit: Oh duh, there won't be any snow in April anyway. The mountains do have summer activities, but it sounds like your wife wouldn't be interested in that. I don't think there's really much to do up there other than outdoors-type stuff. There's a big outlet mall up there.

The Poconos? Dude... I don't know. I've lived in PA all my life and even I would suggest staying away. If you're looking for a romantic weekend in the middle of nowhere, go check out some nicer places up in maybe Vermont or Maine.

Me .. hell yeah. My wife ... hell no (she does not do "adventure"). I love outdoors and thrilling stuff (roller coasters, white water rafting etc etc). My wife no. Makes me wonder how we got together sometimes (14 years of great marriage in March but known each other for 18 years).

Essentially we just want something different. Our anniversary is in the hear of tax season and we usually do the boring dinner out and that's it as it is all I have time for. This year I want to do something nice and take her away for a w/e or 4 days etc. She deserves it.

EDIT - FYI we live in VA so it needs to be within driving distance (maybe 6 hours or so). I would love to do Vegas but that's looking like about $1800 or so for a w/e and it would be kinda short (ie get there friday afternoon and leave on Sunday midday). With the time changes and layovers flight wise we wouldn't get a whole lot of time there to have fun.

I am from about 30mins south. There are some fun things but they are mostly outdoors adventurey type stuff (hiking, fishing, camping, skiing, etc.). However, I personally always thought it was a way overpriced area and never completely understood the attraction... but that is just my opinion growing up not far away. I actually think it is funny that a VA resident would come visit the poconos, since I had a buddy from back home who took his fiance to the Shenandoah Mts. this past summer.

If you do come I would check out the Yuengling Brewer in Pottsville PA (it is on the way and right next to my home town). You are a VA'er so you probably go gaagaa over the stuff like everyone else. I personally don't like Lager because I think it is over hyped and over priced anywhere outside of my little area, but I am a huge fan of Yuengling's Lord Chesterfield Ale. So I would suggest that and may the Lord (Chesty) be with you.

LOL, I'm thinking sig material here.

For future consideration, Southwest has non-stops to vegas out of Norfolk, with cheap extended stay, guarded parking. Why Richmond doesn't is beyond me.

In the spring you can hike, go horseback riding and stuff. There have some "romantic" couples stuff to do there. Champagne glass shaped hot tubs... etc. I guess if you got a decent package it would be nice. It's more kid friendly too. That time of the year is a bit of an inbetween season. Too cold for water/beach activities in the area, and too warm for skiing.

they now have the mohegan sun up there if you like to do some gambling, there are some nice restaurants in there as well. Not sure if the horses will be running in april or not, think they might.
