Pointless UPS rant

Yeah yeah, there are hundreds of 'UPS sucks' threads but I'm so sick to my stomach about this that I had to vent.

I've been looking for a specific guitar amplifier for about a month now and after getting dicked around this entire month by shady sellers on ebay and craigslist, shoddy email communication, etc, I finally found my diamond in the rough. It was bought new in 91, kept in a closet and never used and then sold to me for way less than it was worth. I was in heaven.. it even came with some NOS tubes which are extremely valuable as well..

Well I had it shipped to my place of employment today...apparently the entire side of the box is missing, the address is missing, all the peanuts that were in the box are gone and UPS haphazardly taped the side up with packing tape as if that would make it ok that a 50 lb extremely fragile amplifier + glass tubes had been smashing around over and over for god knows how long. They refused delivery because of the condition. The package was shipped extremely well.. EXTREMELY well because I'm obsessive about this stuff and I made sure he insured everything.

I talked to the nicest woman at UPS HQ who guaranteed that they'd send a driver over to my house so I could inspect it and that I wouldn't be liable for damages if I opened it and she was genuinely upset to hear my story. I was all set until the woman from the local branch called and was a total **** to me.. didnt even give a fvck about my package and was like, 'just have the sender send you another one,' I explained to her the fragility of the situation and how rare it was and she was like, I don't really care, sorry. Just be glad he got it insured. I'm not going to waste my drivers' time having them come out to you.

Well at this point something inside me just snapped and while it was pointless to destroy this woman's attitude with my verbal assault, at this point I really didn't care. I made her swear up and down to repackage this before it got sent back to the sender because if it didn't get horribly raped by some mouthbreather who doesn't give a sh!t about your stuff on the way here, it most certainly will be on the way back if it was sent in such a condition.

How can UPS get away with such insanity.. to completely make a new side of a box out of tape and pretend that it's alright to ship in this condition?

I realize I'll be fine and get my money back on the sale (ebay, through PP and CC w/ protection) but that is hardly the point. I want the rare item that is probably in pieces right now on it's way back home.. I wanted this all to be finished. Now I have to deal with this crap all week, have to deal with the seller, paypal, ebay, possibly my CC if it doesn't get resolved and now it's back to the drawing board to find another one that won't be nearly as nice as this one was.

Its only 1 o clock and I'd kill for a drink right now.

It wasn't my choice, the seller wouldn't go DHL or FedEx, something I've had way better luck with.

That's what I thought.. I was going to inspect it but the **** at the local branch wouldn't hear anything of it. I wanted to make sure it was actually damaged but they said the moment I touched it, they were out of any responsibility they had as the courier. I told her where she could go with that option after being lied to by UPS HQ and promised I would be extended this courtesy.

I have a feeling the product is fine inside but I can't check in any way, I even offered to drive there and look, but she said the moment UPS or myself opened the box, all claims of insurance were out the window.. even after the woman at HQ told me otherwise.

I was going to call back HQ and let them know what happened but I figure why fvcking bother.. I'll just get an apology from someone who had nothing to do with the situation and will be meaningless anyway, I don't want to hear pointless words as they can't undo the damage done.

The branch lady is a lying POS. UPS has let me open and refuse before when I am actually at their branch.

Obviously since HQ told me the same thing, but it's not worth my time to fight some stubborn bitch. She was doing everything in her power to rush me off the phone until I put her in her place.

Perhaps they can call and order the ***** at the local to do what HQ says?

That totally sucks. I've had my own numerous encounters with their customer service, and yeah, I was told one thing by one person and then another said "No, that's inconvenient for us, so screw off."

Under those circumstances, my choice would have been to not complete the deal. Sorry, I know what's done is done, but I find it frustrating that after all the warnings I have posted here over the years people are still making the same mistakes. I guess I shouldn't expect others to learn from my experience.

I figured I'd roll the dice.. is it really that bad that ONE single package can't make it through unharmed? Furthermore he shipped it before I told him to use a different courier so the point was moot. I figured as long as he insured it things would be ok, which they will be, but not for him unfortunately. Guess he'll never ship UPS again.

I have a low tolerance for UPS employees, first hint of crap they give me I unload.

FedEx on the other hand has always been very accomdating and nice. Never had a problem with them.

This has to be either miscommunication on their part or misunderstanding on yours. Until you SIGN for it, it's still in their hands. You can poke it with your finger all you want Go over there and demand to see it. Any package suspected damaged, UPS has the right to open them them. Don't let up.

I appreciate the replies but you're telling me stuff I stated in my first post. I KNOW that the branch lady is lying but is it really worth spending my entire day fighting? I don't want a 16 year old amplifier that's SEEMINGLY been tossed around for days to not work. The only way I can test that is to bring my huge speaker cabinet, a guitar, some cables, and a power chord to the UPS branch and play it. It's impossible to tell otherwise if the circuit is bad.

Yea, I'd go over to the branch and demand to inspect it. If they give you any crap make a scene

blah blah blah UPS sucks blah blah blah.

Here's a hint- none of them care! You are blaming them 100% for what may/may not be their fault.

You need to go hang out w/ PAB

Then go with your gut instinct. Send it back and be done with it. I know it sucks but at least you won't be ut any money.
