i think it'll get better with time, nvidia jus released it too early before they optimized their drivers

do you have $1000 for gfx, $150 for a good psu, and $200 for a new mobo? i think my new computer is going to cost around that much!

SLI is such a waste fo money. So you get a 50% - 100% performance increase. The next generation cards will be 50% - 100% better. So what's the point.

What kind of stupid quesiton of this!?

Do you want to know which one is faster? Or which one consumes more power? What!?

THe SLI is faster but more expensive. THe X850XT(PE) consumes a bit less than a 6800U.

do you have $1000 for gfx, $150 for a good psu, and $200 for a new mobo? i think my new computer is going to cost around that much!

I think you are exagerating a bit here. You dont need a super high end PSU. Yes SLI requires power but i would say a Seasonic Super Tornado, or an OCZ 420Watt should run it with plenty of room to spare.

x850xt, because SLi is in its infancy and has some bugs to be worked out. plus, the x850xt would be cheaper, will have a product lifespan of almost as long, and you can use the money you saved to buy a new top end card in 1.5-2 years.

eh, i think 420w is pushin it with dual 6800ultras. if you are spending that much on a computer, at least get a good quality 500+watt psu.

This is inane. Do you want bragging rights? Than get 2 6800ultras pci e. If you want the best bang for the buck, than shop around and take which features you like best. x850 pe runs quieter and probably uses less power, but may not be as future proof. I assume they will cost around the same, so for the budget minded person, neither will likely be a good choice.

Runs quieter. I doubt it... they are probably both the same. Remember the X850XT uses a dual slot cooler as well. Read Anands review on it. Less power... eh probably.

I agree with the rest of your statement.

No it will be fine. It will have plenty of headroom.

It has just as many bugs as the ATI drivers do. SLI is fine right now.

the x850xt would be cheaper
Well no kidding, however if he is comparing these 2 cards obviously money isn't a concern. The product lifespan would not be as long as it lacks support for 32bit fp, as well as DX9.0C (and SM3.0)

You need to spread out and read some real reviews.

SLI only works wiht like 10 games or so. So what is the point dropping 1000 for two 6800U?? x850xtpe all the way.

How is this even a "fair" vote? Two 6800U's cost twice as much as a single X850XT/PE.

Then there is the problem SLI has with WS monitors, which puts many power users (the kind that would spend $1200 on two cards) out of luck.

um....no.
While I showed in the first article that a pair of Ultras were sustainable using a high quality power supply, such as the Tagan in the SLI review systems I use, GTs are more attractive for those with similar high-quality supplies but with less sustainable output. The power supply is a major component in your PC system, and with SLI it definitely becomes a paramount consideration and I'd argue that it's the single most important part required for a stable SLI setup...

a good quality 420w might work stably with 1cd drive, 1 hd, etc but you would NOT have very much headroom. 4 freekin molex connectors JUST for the graphics cards...its ovbious that you want as much power as you can get.

Actually, the x850XT PE does run quiet. The fan never hits top speed under load. And 2 6800U's in SLI would be bottlenecked by your CPU. Heck, just one is bottlenecked if we look at the latest news from Anand. Even the x850XT PE is bottlenecked. Video cards are ahead of the game. Look at upgrading your proc now.

Yeah and have you looked at the OCZ Powerstream 420. It will have plenty of headroom with a fully loaded system (obviously SCSI RAID and what not would probably stress it too much). Im not saying i recommend it but it will run it ok.

Well...You did reply... So whats that say about you ?

Maybe you should quote my entire post instead of one piece! I said it is stupid because he says "Which one?" he doesn't say what he is looking for what his budget is or what the rest of his system is.

FOr the speed the SLI would dominate. No doubt about it in anybodies mind as 1x 6800U can keep up with an X850XT(PE) (Obviously the X840 wins but it can keep up just fine). However cost wise neither are really effective. The 6800Gt is much more bang for your buck. And if it ever comes out the X800XL. Soundwise doesn't really matter. They are both about the same in terms of sound. Power consumption ATI still uses a bit less power than Nvidia. Feature wise Nvidia has more features.
