Yeah, its a Ferrari, theres SOME lost gains, but in other parts (Doom3 Engine performance) there is 100% gain over ATI's weenie X850XT PE.

AM getting a SLI setup, and I'll be MORE than happy to go head to head with your POS x850xt pe.

If you notice no difference then you are CPU bound and faster GPU's will have no effect.

look at my sig...if you are cpu limited at 16x12 4x 16x then that just meas that when the next gen games come out, you will be all set. either that, or you need a new cpu
and anandtechs article is kind of dumb, i mean it is a good article about SLi performance but there are no ati cards tested to compare it to.

Also..the performance in Doom3 is certainly not an indicator for the hardware performance, but rather for the better Nvidia OpenGL drivers. I can totally live with that since i do NOT expect Doom3 being "the uber game of all games".

The majority of games i will play will NOT have the name "Doom3" btw...instead most/all of them wil be D3D titles whereas an SOLE X850XT PE is more than sufficient in performance. ("More than sufficient" even slightly underexaggerated

All other thoughts i have, eg Unreal 3 engine and everything 6months++ ahead already involves R520 and NV50....from that P.O.V. its irrelevant that Ati still doesnt have PS3.0 (tho sad, i admit !)....but the card should definatly be a killer the next 6 or so months 'til we see news from ATI/NV.

I really do NOT see a big future for SLI...SLI is only a result of extreme shortage and high prices of high-end graphics cards (X800XT, NV45 etc..)....since these cards are still barely available. I have the impression, btw, that MUCH MORE (many, many) people get two 6600s for SLI than two 6800s. What i am saying: SLI is nothig more than NV's compensation for their unability to provide reasonable proces high-end cards in quantity. This didnt work..so people hype(d) SLI and 2 6600s Which is pathetic if you know what a cheap and weak card the 6600 actually is.

The fact the NV40s are destroying everything in the premier engine that is full per pixel lighting and shading is tremendous.

whether its ATIs OGL drivers or not, its bad news for ATI. that engine owns everything, and will be used in games like call of duty.

40% of the people want one X850 and I'd guess that another 20% of the folks would choose one 6800U if it were an option. SLI is just not very attractive right now.

Its is your OPINION that the Doom3 engine based games will "look WAY better than any DX based engine". Its not a fact, no matter how much you want it to be. Many people think HL2 looks better than Doom3, but that cannot be, since the Doom3 engine looks better. Now can it?

Do you want me to go on, All supposedly coming out in the middle of this year, while iD would have tweaked their Doom 3 engine for their expansion pack.

These games will look FAR superior to Doom 3, actually even NOW before they have even been released they look FAR superior, and i even bet they run at better FPS and accomodate a far wider range of cards than Doom 3.

Oh and yes, they do use Direct X. And oh one more thing, Splinter Cell is using an Unreal 2 based engine which is already 2-3 YEARS OLD!
