A good portion of success is inspired by fear. Don't know about greed.

Most people view success in monetary measures. So, most success is greed driven or atleast viewed this way.

But for a percentage of success to be greed? I don't see that as a valid measure.

Do you mean, what percentage of success is measured monetarily? That's the better question. I'd say 60/40 in favor of monetary measures.

I wanted to see what people would use to quantify greed. I thought about this tonight and thought it was an interesting question.

Your metric of success seems biased towards material acquisition. Not everything worthwhile in life can be bought or stolen.

Ahhh ......

... I quantify greed as the following:

If you are financially stable and get emotional over your financial future. Heart rate increases, etc. Tehn you have a good amount of greed.

I added a poll on a percentage scale however I am using firefox and I am also wondering why the poll did not submit properly.

The poll questing was 1-10%, 11-20% etc etc.

I would also like to say that I was not quantifying greed in material or in any other basis, it is you who dervied that scale.

Here's m 2 cents.. jus my opinion:

A lot of people think that success is a journey. You are realizing that you need to choose the right paths and be good to yourself and others. A continued life of success. You may be happier, but may underachieve.

If your goal/destination is success, sometimes the road to it is full of greed/apathy and may make the wrong decisons. You will probably get further, but won't be as happy.

I'd say success is more ambition than greed. I'd say, in order of importance:

Hard work/resistance to failure > Ambition > Luck > Greed

Well, if success is a journey. Success is simply breathing and having life events.

Buit with a planned destination, there is less of a journey along the way since you worry more about money than need be. While the arpe diem attitude allows you to be more free. And isn't freedom one of hte keys to life?

I just hate to see people's live's destroyed by too much focus on reaching a destination by sacrificing life along the way.
