i use norton because my dad pays for it thus i havent really given other software much thought... ive tried macaffee in the past and i just simply dont like anything about it, im being picky and subjective though... i also tried AVG and panda in the past and AVG seemed fine but i didnt like panda because of the stability etc and iirc it was a bitch to uninstall 100%.

i switched to antiVir after using AVG for a while. i loved AVG but seemed quirky or less user friendly on my machine too.

I was going to say, yeah, "McAfee" is about as descriptive as "Ford." There's a heck of a difference between the home and Enterprise versions. Too bad we can't buy one-packs of VirusScan Enterprise 8.0i. Buffer-overflow protection, arbitrary custom behavior-blocking options, share control, eleventy beelion configuration options...

That said, I do like the hourly updates on Kapersky... testing it out here. It might be just the thing for my mom, who's prone to taking emails at face value and infected her last computer with MyDoom.O because its virus defs were three days too old to see it.

I hate them all, but i use AVG/AntiVir depending on which one i feel like installing after a format.

I don't ever really get viruses though, so i rarely ever run a system scan...heck i don't think i have run a system scan for a few months now...

Oh, & to this...

If you are running Windows, you NEED antivirus software.

No you do not need antivirus software.
Common sense + router + current Windows updates + Adaware + Firefox = no need for an antivirus program.
That being said, i would still recommend having one unless you are willing to risk it like i usually do.
Most careless people do, but the last time i got a virus was because i was stupid & opened a file i shoulda known better about.

Before that, i hadn't gotten a virus for a couple yrs. IIRC.

I like the new EZ Trust Armor Suite. They just upgraded the software suite a few days ago and I'm impressed. They use the fewest resources of any software suite. You need to check out the EZ Armor 3.

As far as updates you can set it to auto and it will always keep your suite up to date without your knowing.

All the poll shows is that advertising works.

The worst antivirus's are the most commonly used. The best are the least known.

It's hard to judge an antivirus for many people because we can be easily fooled by false positives.

Yup. My team kept urging me to get Symantec. Symantec is great, symantec is the best... I kept asking them if they've ever used anyting else, and the answer was always no. I kept asking them if they've ever actually centrally managed a symantec server and the answer was always no.
