Poll: Best war movie...

Put the Boot Camp Training element of "Full Metal Jacket", the invasion of France from "Saving Private Ryan" and then feed a rich character-driven story thru from "Platoon" or "Band of Bros.", then you have the greatest movie of all time.

I was looking for this one , as well.
Although, I will say I was glad I wasn't watching SPR in the theatre on a big screen. That opening sequence in the landing craft had me wanting to hunker down behind the sofa. The hand held camera action had me freaking out.

IMO, A Bridge too Far is one of the better war movies as is Tora, Tora, Tora.

My opinion of your list:

Full Metal Jacket- Haven't seen it all the way through, but what I saw sucked.

Black Hawk Down- Pretty good movie

Hamburger Hill- Haven't seen it.

Platoon- Haven't seen it all the way through, but what I saw sucked.

Apocalypse Now- Haven't seen it.

Saving Private Ryan- Haven't seen it all the way through, but was not intrigued by what I saw.

Band Of Brothers- Haven't seen it and don't want to because it's associated with Speilberg/Hanks so it will indubitably suck.

Apocalypse Now is not the same type of movie as Saving Private Ryan. One takes place during a war, one is about a war.

Saving Private Ryan got my vote as best war movie, but Apocalypse Now is a great(er) movie in many respects. Go read Heart of Darkness and then watch Apocalypse Now.

Totally, you guys are lost. Apocalypse Now is easily the best movie on this list.

Edit: Most of the youngsters here probably haven't even seen it or "don't get it"

It was a toss up between that and SPR. Apocalypse Now is definately a lot deeper than the rest of them. I don' t think the young'ins' attention spans could handle it.

Actually I don't know if this is actually a war movie, but if it is it gets my vote.
