I can tell you as a fact that it is Lego, and in plural, Lego Blocks. This is from the country, and the person, who invented Lego. This is ofcourse translated from danish.

I'm a native English speaker but Danes normally make a word plural by adding 'er' to the end of a word. My wife is Danish and she says "LEGO klods" is singular. (They don't normally just call it a LEGO...it's LEGO brick) She says "LEGO klodser" is the plural (LEGO bricks). She says she has NEVER heard LEGOer! (LEGOs)
BTW, Lego is short for the Danish phrase "lege godt" which means "play well". (My wife DID NOT know this!)

but you're stll missing the point that LEGO isn't the name of the toy, it's the name of the company, and since there aren't 2 LEGO companies there is no need to ever say LEGOs. And just because sooner or later somones gonna call me on this: IF there were 2 LEGO companies, and both made toy bricks, you still couldn't say you play with LEGOs, because you would be saying you play with the companies themselves.
Interesting loop hole I just thought of: you could say "I play with LEGO's bricks" (notice the apotraphy in LEGO's) because then it is possesive, so you're actually saying you play w/ bricks that belong to (or in this case, were made by) LEGO. So if you shortened it to "I play with LEGO's" while being grammaticly incorrect (cuz it isn't a complete thought) would make it ....... "legaly" correct. See what I mean?
As I said before though, I don't care, Imma still say LEGOs!

To summarize.
Lego is a proper noun, by definition it can ONLY be signular. The LEGO company therefore wants people to say 'lego bricks'
anyone who directly refers to the blocks as lego are WRONG, further, we came to the consensus that the word has been bastardized (reasonably, since nobody says 'lego bricks') to lego as the singular for a lego brick and legos for multiple bricks in the US. In continental europe, it was claimed, to be lego for both singular and plural.
to summarize for the lazy:

neither of these bastardizations are right, but if you say 'give me those lego' in amrica you'll get a weird look to say the least.
just to be picky (hehe) its called the English language, and im English and we say Lego as singular or plural for the product, for individual bricks or pieces we say brick, bricks, bit, bits, piece or pieces (eg, give me those pieces of lego, not give me those legos)......
its not called the American Language except by software manufacturers who like to put '(US) English' in the install process. And thats supposedly meant to be due to the keyboard layout........hmmmm.....
Or is it merely an attempt to slowly remove the word English and replace it with the word American, but craftily so as to stop us preventing it from happening?

I agree, legos are the best, but there is no way you can beat my crowning lego achievement, a lego aircraft carrier.
