If you want a simple game, with no character customizations, then play WoW. Its gameplay is a hybrid of Diablo2 and WarCraft 3. There was a lot more they could have done with the game, but they didn't, to satisfy the Bnet Diablo 2 players.
I've been playing EQ2 now since its release, and its an excellent game. Lots of depth. It does take a lot of time, however if you get in a good group, you can easily bang out a few levels with ease. Alternatively, quests will give more experience than grinding monsters. I know many people that have gotten to level 20 by solely doing quests. Most of their equipment came from thsoe quests as well. In EQ2, differences between levels are noticeable. You will feel stronger at level 16 than you did at level 15. I didn't feel that at all when I was playing the WoW Open Beta. The crafting in EQ2 is a little rough though, and very time consuming, and I haven't done much with it.
