When I have gone without a screen protector, I have found the glass screen to be too smooth and slippery for my liking. I like the little friction a protector gives. Also, the fingerprints/smears bother me a lot.

I also found that, even though the iPhone screens are very strong, after a while they will develop some signs of use. When I have gone to sell my old phones, the potential buyers will invariably check the screen for even tiny scratches - screen protectors prevent those entirely.

Finally, I really like the anti-glare feature of my new protector - It is a big plus for me (in addition, it has even more texture than the regular ones, which I like).

Last screen protector I used was on a resistive screen a few years back, it just doesn't feel right on the capacitive screens.

Spigen Ultra Crystal on my HTC One and used on all my phones as far back as I can remember. Looks like glass, feels like glass, but half the price. It does get fingerprints, but they are easily wiped off and screen is as perfect as when the phone was new when I sell it.

Always have one on. Phone often winds up in the toolbox, among all sorts of misc tools, odds and ends, etc. Use the zagg HD, it stayed nice and smooth, had it replaced under warranty when one of the corners started to peel after a year.

You may never scratch your phone, until you scratch it. Then its scratched. I have seen some gnarly ones belonging to coworkers and on 2nd hand phones people try to dump on the classifieds.

I've had my gs3 since 6/12 and can't find any scratches on the screen. The plastic back is another story but even then nothing horrible.

Decided not to go with one with my N4 but it has since developed a small scratch and lots of little micro ones. Bought a Zagg Invisible Shield to prevent anymore from happening.

i use a spigen glas.tr which is a glass screen protector. it's more expensive but feels like theres nothing on the screen at all. just be really careful when applying it so you dont get dirt underneath. i used nitrile gloves and wipe down the surface with rubbing alcohol then dried it with microfiber cloth

Do you think that an unprotected screen will have zero scratches or signs of use after 2 years?

Maybe, maybe not. I never keep my phones for two years, they lose too much value by that time. If I did keep one that long I imagine it would still look good as I am very careful with my phones.

The main reason I use a protector is to prevent the micro scratches.

They are also the first thing I look for when buying a used phone.

I always use screen protectors as well, mainly because I would always see that little scratch and obsess over it despite the fact that it probably wouldn't make a difference when the display is on. I always use the Moshi ones because they are 100% bubble free and I suck royally at putting the sticky ones on.

Cars are in an entirely different order of magnitude of expense, chance of being in an accident in a car is very real due to factors out of one's control, and car insurance is mandatory by law.

Screen protectors on a phone are mostly just a scam. Modern phones don't need them if they are used reasonably; they can go their entire life without scratches on the screen even if that entire time they are often in a pocket.

Yes - At worst you have very tiny tiny fine scratches that are not noticeable at all when the screen is turned on, so who cares? I don't angle my phone in light 24/7 looking for scratches you can't notice under other conditions, why be so picky? Enjoy it the way it was meant to be enjoyed.

I've never had any issues with keeping phones near pristine over the life I've had them , while being naked. (Other than the crap glass on the back of the Nexus 4 or specific phones like that, I'd cover the back with something as its usually cheap glass)

I do work in an Office though. I do not live near Sand or Beaches, and I never drop my phone.

I'd much rather enjoy my phone naked for me then worry about what somebody else will think of it in 2 years. These are phones, not cars.

By the way, we know who you are, no need to sign every post

Never used one, never will. Frankly, I hate how some of my co-workers phones look after they've covered them in all these layers of plastic. First some ugly case making an otherwise sleek device into a garish looking brick, then a shield over the screen. I know to each their own and all, but to me it just seems a bit ridiculous to make something hideous in order to protect it from... looking hideous?

I've never covered any of my phones with anything (DX then SGS3 now Note 2) and the screens remained/remain pristine. (The DX and SGS3 despite a few drops. My N2 still looks as new as the day I bought it).

Agreed, i put the samsung flip case on my wife's Galaxy S3 and thus it is still sleek and no screen protector to slow down my finger movements.

I dug a deep scratch with a stylus in an old WinMo PDA back in the day. (I still don't know how that happened with a stylus. I guess a grain of sand got stuck on the tip... Whatever...) This was, of course, well before Gorilla Glass.

Ever since that incident, I've been using wet protectors. I know I would obsess on anything bigger than a micro scratch, so why take the risk? No bubbles or peeling with a wet protector.

I've used Skinomi, Zagg, and BestSkinsEver. They were all great. I've been using BSE exclusively lately. Their latest reformulation is VERY good. Almost no "orange peel" effect, and the skin is EXTREMELY smooth. I highly recommend them.

I went caseless for the longest time with my GNex. I'm usually very gentle with my phone, but had a horrifying drop that absolutely should have shattered the glass and broken the internals, but was lucky enough to come out unscathed. Since then, I bought a slim kickstand case. I love it.
