I hate the latest version of media player- It has a TERRIBLE interface, to say nothing of the spyware it installs. I suggest using an older version-

I have version 6(?) installed on my Win2K partition, and guess what-- even when I boot in XP, i can just double click on it and it works! Woot Try that

I'd say it's a tie between Real Player and Quicktime. Real player because you have to click a million times before you can do anything (are you sure you want to do that? Here's some ads you might like... Are you really sure you want to do that?) and quicktime because it's so ugly.
How can you not like Windows Media Player? I like the UI, it's very well designed. The spyware was something the media invented. Every time you put a CD in, it checks on the internet to get the names of the songs and title of the CD for you. It logs this. Oh no! I never realized how horrible that was! I condemn them to HELL for that!

I voted for Realplayer for obvios reasons, second comes Acdsee4, hate that program, it took over my camedia master program I use for my digital camera, and what do you know even though acdsee took it over it didnt even work

Why? I love Linux, it's small, no bloat; difficult to get working, but great if you know what you're doing.

Yeah I don't use it either. None of the auto-download patches ever work anyway and it's slower and more massive than the old one so I always use the older.

Nah, no need to put Linux there. The main reason being that it doesn't suck . And besides, there are so many version of Linux meant for different things, so putting "Linux" there is way too generic.

I voted for Windows ME. Rehash of a rehashed OS that offered no real value over it's predecessors. and they still had the nerve to ask for full price for that piece of crap!

As for Media Players. The earlier version were OK, but the newer version are awful! Bloated and dysfunctional.

Hmm. In order to view CNN video archive, you now have to sign up for RealOne. I guess I won't be viewing any more CNN video archive... Real Player just plain blows.. (before I gave up on it in disgust, every time I'd start it up to play something it always told me I needed some update or another to view whatever it was I wanted to watch. Annoying as hell.. )

WMP 7 and above suck as well. They seem to offer zero functionality over WMP 6.4, but add increased bloat, lame-ass GUI, and it bogs down into a tar-filled pit of slowness. I installed the DivX codecs, and WMP 6.4 works great.

Here's one I haven't seen mentioned: Microsoft Word. Why does everyone feel the need to send me a 200k Word ".doc" file when they can just send the same thing as a 1k text ".txt" file? Notepad opens up in about 2 seconds and takes practically zero system resources, while Word... (and hey, there's always Wordpad if you need to do funky formatting..)
