Narrow 16 or 17 rims on an older car just screams lack of tire options to me. Even my 987.2 has the small factory 17" wheels and I had to go up 20mm in size front and rear to get access to good summers. Luckily the wheel widths supported it and there was no rubbing. The newest rubber I could get in factory sizing was a 12 year old tire.

Finding tires for the 14" or 15" OEM MR2 wheels isn't fun either, haha. I moved to 17's and have many more tire options.

Don't view having to go up or down a little as a major problem myself. The nominal widths/ODs vary a little brand to brand anyway. If compound isn't exactly what you wanted, adjust driving style to suit. IMO there are plenty of acceptable tires in 17 and 16 and even 15 and smaller. Just got to go in to it not being picky.

Yes s2000 is good. Yeah yeah its an MR.

Finding one that isn't thrashed may be more difficult than an old bockster though.

Also by narrow tire, what I meant is not super wide as is the current fashion craze.

Ah the days before the internet when you could buy a car you like without the paranoia created by visiting forum "engine maintenance\common problems"

I'm curious how much of that is Porsche dealers looking for an excuse to do expensive work.

Which its kinda funny even Prius Chat (think that's the forum) has a mix of people "don't do this yourself just have a mechanic do it" and then people saying that its mechanics trying to scare people into not doing work themselves. Which there's a bit back and forth in that sure some people will be better off versus screwing it up themselves and then having to pay for a mechanic to fix it and possibly other after, but some stuff it seems like mechanics do try and scare people to get some extra business.

The most vulnerable are the ones who have no understanding of the vehicle; and do not have the natural inclination, time, or ability to "figure it out" and DIY . There is also the matter of "necessity"; if a situation occurs where the car won't run, that's when a bad mechanic can tack on "extras". Women of any stripe, men that dress and behave in a way(such as dress too wealthy, opening yap about "what they do" or state they are "educated") that indicates they have no knowledge of cars, language barrier are all factors if a mechanic goes "full predator" or not. A physically disabled person is also more vulnerable, as the might have the tools to drive the car, but not to loosen fasteners, operate equipment, etc that only some with a pair of hands can do.
Reporting to the authorities will be rendered partially ineffective, since they already know egregious misconduct. There's also a matter of time to write out the complaint.

For every Eric O, of South Main Auto Repair Youtube channel, there's a bunch of "money extractors" out there along with quite a few incompetents; some of his video content is from the result of fix problems others couldn't or were created by another.

There are good guys are out there, but finding one can be a (very long chain of) gamble. The local Toyota dealership hasn't given me warning signs that they'd screw up the insides of a car, but the ones running their own shop have given me more than enough experience to see that there are real POS out there .After all, total dollars made is a function of quantity of transactions/hours multiplied by the price per transaction. The more jobs done, the more dollars coming in.

So I got the top replaced and new seats in, but have an issue. Apparently the driver's side didn't have a connection for the power seat, so can't adjust it. Which its not uncomfortable in its current position, but still. The passenger side did have power connection and is working good. Had to replace one of the brake light bulbs, but it was super easy (and 2 pack of bulbs was like $10). The windshield washer fluid reservoir might have a hole in it. I think that's the only non-cosmetic stuff I've noticed. Drives nice and its fairly comfortable even though you really feel the road. Definitely handles a lot better than my pick up (ha). It does show its age, for better and worse. It is a nice tactile feel and you don't have to be flooring it to get a thrill. But older transmissions definitely aren't as smooth as newer ones and some minor creature comfort things: mine is lacking cruise control and the turn signal stalk doesn't auto return to default position so I keep leaving my turn signal on). It still looks sharp (even if its a little rough around the edges - which I like because I don't like having to baby cars, not that I trash them or anything), black on chrome (which I really like those 90s Porsche curved wheels, really goes well with the Boxster and the 90s 911 in my opinion).

Even though I think it looks fine stock, I think the front bumper/fascia and side skirts of this kit would look a bit nicer still (I think there was an official Porsche body kit for the Boxster or maybe S that looks kinda similar):
I wouldn't bother with the rear bumper (there aren't really any rear bumpers I've seen that improve the looks so it wouldn't be worth spending extra to make it look worse). There's one that I think is like the 90s 911 Turbo style that looks a bit better (mostly looks the same as stock but adds small vents on the side), but it wouldn't be worth the cost and I don't think you can find them anywhere. I'd probably look into having a bit of a custom one done (mostly just add like diffuser strakes and custom exhaust outlet) if I were to do something more in depth if I kept it.
I also like this for the rear spoiler, reserved and would make it look better when its in the up position:
