There's no ramping up of difficulty at all here.

I have to agree on that. The levels are not ordered by difficulty.

Yeah that's really shitty actually. But there's a lot of kiddies and just plain fucking morons in general that would flame a developer because they didn't like or couldn't figure out the game. It's crappy PR but they should've just posted a giant dick on the page and had the text "Suck this whiners --->".
