Possesed DVD-ROM

So it's Christmas and I got a 6600 GT. I installed it and after some initial troubles (a system restore and some driver updates later) I got everything working. I usually used my newer double layer DVD reader writer but for kicks I opened my old Compaq DVD-ROM DV-5700B drive and placed the install CD of F.E.A.R. in it. I close it .. about 3 second pass by and it opens again.

I tried several CDs and anytime I put a CD in, it opens back up. I don't know when this started happening. I can use my newer drive just fine for anything but I would like to have the old one working too.

Im going to try to run a virus scan over night see if it comes up with anything.

Someone else recently had a problem like that - it turned out it was the psu. A new one cured it.
Just an idea though!!!

I don't have the money to get a new PSU. Also if it was the PSU, I think there would be other symptoms. When I get a chance I'll take it apart again and check the connectors. I might have bumped something while installing the new GFX card.

I had an dvd-rom that would close randomly and was really sensitive when I touched it. But yours only opens when a cd is inserted, right? Check your system for viruses/spyware. Otherwise, it could be a bad sensor in the drive
