I was passing through the woods today when I spied a Montezuma Quail.
These quail have no defense at all against predators so they try their best to hide. If a predator is around the quail try to slip away very slowly so as not to be noticed. So the quail I saw this morning was very carefully, quietly walking along, carefully placing each foot so as to make no noise and moving slowly, slowly as not to attract attention. It literally took five minutes for it to move three feet. The strategy was golden except for the fact that the bird was in the middle of a paved road. Three other quail quietly waited for it to finish crossing before all four flew off together.
