Power button and Power supply issues

I did a upgrade with new HD, cpu, mobo & mem and used my 420 watt power supply from the old one.

Anyway the problem I'm having is on powering up via the case power button. Say after windows shutdown when you go to hit the button it won't start up. but I notice it acts like it wants to because for a split sec fans with slightly spin etc. I did notice though if I like turned off the the power supply from the back (and maybe unplugged (Can't remember exact steps) and wait a little while and then go to hit the button that I could get it to start right up. Other than that it works fine and never had any problems.

Anyhow, my question is does anyone know what the cause of this is? and would maybe a different PS solve the problem?

Check the connection between the switch and the motherboard. It might be just the switch on your case. I had a problem once where it won't boot up unless I lay the computer on it side lol. The problem was the switch.

Yeah, I've checked on that and the connections seem to look ok but you never know.

It's just weird and wish I could figure out what causes it. What I do now is after I shut down the puter I turn the switch off on the supply and when I want to turn the puter back on on I flip the supply switch back on and wait for 30-60 seconds and then hit the power button.

I'll probably try to get a different PS and see if that will solve it.

Do you have a new heatsink and fan also?

I had similar probs with an upgrade and my fan was pulling to much current for the mobo header.
Fan would give about 1 spin and nothing else would happen.

Plugging into a molex connector (with an adapter of course) solved the issue completely.
