Hey all I just recently purchased a p4 3.0ghzE with hyperthreading and when I put it in I have been plagued with random reboots.

Right now I am running in my little Antec Aria case:
CD-R drive
120gb HD
Radeon 9700 Pro
SoundBlaster Audigy

I have a 300w ps in here and I didn't have this problem before I threw the 3 ghz chip in(Had a 2 ghz before).
Could this be the reason or do I maybe have a deffective chip?

that PSU should be just fine. its an antec, so its a quality brand.

my suspiscion is that its your mobo. via chipsets and intel CPU's usually dont mix. is VIA even a a liscensed intel chipset maker? i dont know, i could be wrong about all of this. :Q

Well the thing is I have had my suspicions about this MB for awhile now, Like whenever I have Fastwrite enabled in the bios it goes all screwey on me, green lines everywhere stuff like that... What microATX MB would you recommend for my system then?

well, i would get some second opinions on the Mobo...i dont want to jump to conclusions.

does it have to be for an intel CPU? or are you considering an amd board.

Why would you say that, I like having the small case. I don't really have a big apt so a clunky case is just out of the question.

that one looks good to me, but i would get some second opinions. also, before you purchase a new mobo, i would get some other opinions on the problem you are having to make sure that the mobo is the problem.

My friend has a Shuttle mini case and it beeps and reboots all the time.

My guess is because the cpu fan is practically touching the dvd-rom.

Getting a microcase is not smart. Get a light, big case like the Antec Lanboy if you want to be safe.

300W Antec PSU suggests This
Which has 15A on the 12v rail.
A 3.0GHz P4 will take ~10A peak.
Suggested Here
9700Pro will take ~0.5A
Misc extras (HDD/CD drives/fans) will be ~5A.

That's close to 15A under peak conditions. And 2A up from what you needed before. It *might* be a PSU issue (not enough amps). You could try a friends PSU (or a spare one if you have any).

its an antec, so its fine.

id take the 300 watt antec over a cheapo 600watt.
