Power Supply Liability Question

My Antec True 380W Max power supply blew up a few days ago, so I went out and bought another PSU, but the motherboard doesn't work either :\

I am guessing that there is no liability put on the power supply company for faulty components other than the one they produced? I didn't see it spelled out anywhere on their site though.

Thank you!

there is also the possiblity of it not being faulty but being the result of power fluctuation from a surge or the like.

Go after them if you want.

Every product has an "implied warranty"
which means its supposed to function for its intended use.

All you got to do is prove that the item did not work
under normal operating conditions..power surges,
motherboard glitches, etc are all normal and usual conditions.

Since your power supply blew up, you got your proof.
Case closed.............

Find a lawyer and go get 'em.....

Good Luck.............

FSP Group for budget, best-bang-for-buck.

Zippy/Emacs or Enermax for I don't care what it costs. PCP&C for the very well healed $$$.

You are probably better off calling Antec Directly if that is possible. If the power supply was not strong enough for your installed hardware, then you would be at fault. For isntance if you needed a 480 watt and were trying to get by with a lower rated power supply, then it is your problem. No way of telling what hardware you were using.

Good luck proving that there wasn't a power surge outside of the component's rated tolerances (it's a power supply, not a surge protector), or that the motherboard didn't cause the failure ('motherboard shorts the +5V and +12V rails together', for instance, is not a 'normal and usual condition', and would almost certainly destroy both parts). There's no way you could conclusively prove anything like this in court.

I was called worse than a fanboy for mentioning that for almost two years now, that quality is slipping in certain brands. NOW does anyone listen. Do a serch and find how many times I have mentioned this over the last two years I lost a couple of HDD and a mobo to two 'defective" Antecs (so they say). I posted about it looooonnnnnnnggggg ago.

I have even cautioned against a different brands lower (entry level) lines as not quite what they seem. I lost one of those as well (no damage to other components) to poor cooling design of the PSU itself. I since switched to a better line and can't be happier.

rofl...I have always stated STAY AWAY FROM ANTEC!!! duh...

Also a quick note even a good lawyer is NOT going to get ANTEC to pay for any other components that your PSU might have damaged. Will never happen!!

In case anyone wants to know, its one of the cap filter cans that blow making a sound like a 2" firecracker.

Really gets your attention while absent mindedly browsing the web.

If you open the cover, you will see electrolytic fuzz all over the insides.

For chrissake, dont they know enough to buy Japanese brand filter caps by now????
