Power supply question

I'm buying a nice antec case, which either comes with a 300 or 400watt power supply, and about a $40 differance between the 2. Is 300watts enough to get me by for the next couple years? I don't got much money and would rather not spend it if i don't have to.

I hate antec, if your PSU dies don't expect to get any support or even a replacement from them at all. If you can avoid it, take my advice and go with something else.

That being said $40 extra isn't worth it in my eyes, I got a pretty good 400w psu for $35 off hot deals awhile ago. But if you plan on using the case for another computer in the future, or are using a tbird over 1ghz or P4 with something like a Geforce (any model, though the original gf was really power hungry) go for it, the extra 100w will be nice to have, especially if you start adding extra HDs, burners, pci devices, upgrade your CPU to something that uses more power, etc...

For quality PSUs (if you're building an AMD system), look for high combined 3.3v and 5v wattage. Good PSUs have 180 or more watts combined on the 3.3 and 5v lines (which AMD comps make heavy use of). Also look for PSUs with ball-bearing fans. Some PSUs can get really noisy!

You sound like yet another Antec victim. Take his advice, avoid Antec power supplies.
