Power supply question.

What kind of PSU should I get under $70? I want a 500W but I don't know what brand/model to get. Any suggestions?

A company that would sell a 500watt power supply for under $70 might be just a little bit shady.
It would be better to get a power supply from a reputable firm for $70 and around 300-350watts.
I doubt that you seriously need a 500watt power supply. A 350watt true-power power supply is more than most people require.
If you believe that you do need a 500watt power supply please post what needs to be powered in your system.

Newegg has good power supplies, I use PC Power and cooling and paid $180.00 for my 450w
Ethermax, Antec and sparkle all have good power supplies. A 400 or 450w should be more than enough.

Get a good quality power supply like billyjak listed, you won't reget it later.

If you are going to have 2 HDD and 2 x-ROM's 300w to 350w should be fine, no real need to 400+watts unless you are going to have a lot of componets in the box or plan on it down the road.

Maybe 500W is to much then...

The system that this will be used in would have the following:

AMD Clawhammer
GeForce FX
120GB HDD
DVD-ROM (CD-RW when money allows)
512MB RAM

As you can see, it is a future investment. Need I mention any ore? 350W be good then? I had heard that the true power PSU's were very reliable and silent, but when I checked the prices, I thought again. I did find some 500W PSU's for under $60.

Tharkun, don't be mislead by the advertised power output. I would definitely buy a lower powered 350W-450W PSU from a respectable manufacturer such as Antec, Enermax, Enlight, Topower, etc than a cheap $60 "500W" ripoff. Any "500W" PSU almost MUST be bad or wrongly priced. Trust us on this, you'd be much better off with a lower powered but name brand power supply. If you wanna go cheap, at least get a HEC, they're known to be cheap yet decent.

Well, nobody can tell you that for sure since AMD hasn't released much information about its Clawhammer processors, especially pertaining to use current draw, voltage or power consumption, at least not to my knowledge. I don't even know if it uses the same ATX 2.03 or ATX12V standard that's used now, though it most probably will. Assuming its using the same ATX standard and its not a monstrous power CPU(like 150W draw from the 12V rail or something) the 380W PSU should suffice.
