When my house remodeling project was over, I brought my computer into the room and got it connected to the power cord, which in turn was connected to a 6 outlet power strip. The computer had no other peripherals plugged into it. The computer box sat in the room for about 45 minutes while I was making room for the monitor and cleaning up the room, when all of a sudden I heard the computer turn on all by itself. The fan on the power supply started humming. When I heard this, I unplugged the power cord and went about my business cleaning the room. A couple of days later, when I brought in the monitor, I hooked everything up but found that the computer won't turn on.
I have a 850Mhz Athlon on an ASUS mobo inside a FongKai case. Does anyone have any idea what happened to my computer? The only thing I could think of is that there was a big power surge and it somehow went through my still working power strip and fried my power supply.
I don't want to order another power supply untill I can confirm that the p.s. got fried.
thanks
