Let's all raise a can in his honor...

Yeah, I remember Billy, who was the black sheep of the family.

I was reading that Jimmy's brother, two sisters and their father all died from pancreatic cancer.

From People

"Jimmy’s siblings all died of pancreatic cancer within a seven-year span of each other, following their dad’s death from the same illness thirty years earlier. Ruth first got sick with the disease in 1983 and she died just months after diagnosis on Sept. 26, 1983, refusing treatment. She was 54 years old. The Carter’s mother died of breast cancer — which also spread to her pancreas — only a month later on Oct. 30, 1983.

Five years later, Billy was also diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and was told it was inoperable. He died “quietly and peacefully in his sleep,” per his obituary, on Sept. 25, 1988. He was 51 years old.

Less than two years later, Gloria died from pancreatic cancer on March 5, 1990, at 63 years old."

The antithesis of the banana republican Onward Christian Soldier money worshiping type. If I was ever curious as to what kind of christian I was dealing with, I'd ask them what they thought of Jimmy Carter. It can get revealing.

I wasn’t aware of this quote. In fact, other than how/what he did post presidency and apart from solar panels on the White House, I know nothing of the guy.

A few more JC quotations:

“The word is the most accurate available to describe Palestine. Apartheid is when two different people live in the same land, and they are forcibly segregated, and one dominates or persecutes the other. That’s what’s happening in Palestine: so the word is very, very accurate. It’s used widely, and every day, in Israel,” he said.

As the former president’s health deteriorated and he withdrew from public view, his foundation, the Carter Center, upset many Israelis further when it called for a ceasefire days after the 7 October Hamas attack by quoting his 2002 Nobel peace prize speech:

“We will not learn to live together in peace by killing each other’s children.”

I just can't respect a President who doesn't have the guts to sell out the country for his own personal gain.

Eradicated the Guinea worm parasite (nearly)
At it's height it affected 3.5 M people.
Last year? 14 cases.

"Having the worm pulled out is more painful than giving birth,” said Aguek, pointing to scars where four worms emerged from her left leg."

RIP.

Before my time as I was only 11 when he took office. However his legacy will be a great one, he seemed to be a decent, honorable, truly compassionate individual. As stated above, a complete opposite to the schmuck who is taking office January 20th.

I saw him in person once, he took a river boat up the Mississippi river, and stopped at our little town to offer a speech at the spur of the moment. My mother took as my dad was a conservative racist, and she wasn't. Memories like that make me wonder why she married him.

RIP.
Also before my time, but what isn't is that Carter is the best president emeritus of our time.

Not sure if there's a typo, but couldn't make out the connect between your mom & dad.

Sorry, I edited it. My mother thought he was great, my father did not. I believe my father would have loved Trump as president. I take after my mother politically.

Guinea worm infections are really bad. I saw a documentary where an aid worker was treating a group of little kids in Ghana I think it was, all under 10 or so. Sitting in a row and screaming. It was just awful. Makes catching a bunch of bot fly eggs look tame by comparison.

Jimmy Carter helped prevent an incredible amount of suffering for millions of vulnerable people. No drugs involved too, prevention is based on the ability to strain water with the proper filtration media. Catches all the guinea worm eggs. Were it all prevention initiatives had that kind of success. Jimmy Carter, hero to Canada, America and pretty much all of Western Africa.

I hope this legacy talk keeps making the rounds, gets a certain orange buffoon to realize he has the opportunity to out-Reagan St. Reagan, and that it could go far in rehabing his dogshit image. Fingers crossed he wants people to miss him like we miss Jimmy Carter. Wouldn't it be nice to see that pathological need for praise and prestige work in favor of a cause Jimmy supported?

I should clarify. I'm not saying he can rehab his image with me, I just want Ukraine to benefit from the attempt.

Personally, nothing excuses working with Putin or Jan. 6th. The traitor belongs behind bars. That he's a rapist and felon with so much blood on his hands just adds to it.

Yeah, there was some other right wing twat saying Jimmy liked Marxism and 'dabbled in antisemitism' too. Another brain worm victim mayhaps. Despot though? haha Yeah we really need drug testing for every branch of government, all the way to the top. No opting out like Trump at a jail. Anyone who thinks Jimmy Carter was a despot is either full of 'the spirit,' or maybe just crack. I can't tell.

From Grand Junction Daily Sentinal, "Soper’s tweet celebrating Carter’s death at 100 years old is not the first time he’s found himself at the center of social media controversy. In March 2023, Soper tweeted that Western Slope residents “need to be prepared for civil war” over several Colorado Legislature bills addressing gun laws. He then apologized for “some of those words” before the Colorado House.":

Much maligned as POTUS but a good man who served his country. Can't say that about many of our "leaders" these days unfortunately. RIP Mr. Carter.

I think it's more easily explained by "every accusation is a confession".

What doubles his dumbasseryness in this case is that he attended the memorial service after her death.

Well that explains why that dumbass brain needs a wheel chair.. it's not communicating very well.

I don't make fun of disabled people but I'll make an exception just for him!

Just compare that to completely mismanaging Covid.

But you can’t reason with cultists
