Price Drop on A64's

Hi guys I am just wondering; Amd's new Venice chip is coming out on Monday. Will that make A64+Sempron prices drop. I was about to buy a setup, but should I wait until it coems out. Will the prices drop at all?

I doubt it....Different product line and they are already bouncing on the floor for price....

I am not even sure there will be a price drop for the introduction of the 3800+...I think it will go over the top of the 3500+ and if there are any price drops it will be seen in the 3500+..less so in the 3200+ and probably nothing in the 3000+....

As far as I know and someone correct me if I am wrong, but these new venices will not be packaged any different, right???

Wait - don't they usually drop the price on most of the processors when they release a faster one? And isn't the FX-57 and 4200+ coming out at the same time as the other Venice and San Diego core processors, therefore leading to a price drop on the entire line?

I was wondering the same thing, hoping to see a price drop on the 3500+ when the 4200+ is released.

More accurately...

SOI = less current leakage = less heat produced
SS = faster switching transistors = higher clock speeds

Actually... AMD isn't just using Strained Silicon, the same way Intel is. AMD is using DSL (dual stress liner) which helps both NMOS and PMOS transistors. They claim a 24% increase in transistor switching speed.

All of that translates to better overclocking potential.
