price for ddr400

I know for the past 3 months or so the price for all ram went skyhigh. I'm just wondering if anyone knows if prices for ram are ever going to come down again. I got 2x512mb now, I'm planning on keeping my socket939 setup for a while, so I'm looking for another pair of 2x512 ddr400 to plug into my system for upgrade. But with a simple search around the web and prices around 100$, it's kind of hard to click on the buy button for me.
Maybe prices will come down once Vista hits the market? Thanks. I'm also looking for a 512mb ddr2700 sodimm for my laptop. I remember seeing them for 30$ before, now it's like almost 60$ a piece. Sigh...
I know some of you might think it's better to save up for ddr2 systems. I always tell my friend why buy a c2d setup for ~$550, (e6300 ~180$, ddr800 ~220$, gigabyte ds3 ~150$) when I could get upgrade for my system for ~$240(opteron 165 ~$170, 2x512 ddr400 ~$70 hopefully). Yes of course, there are going to be some performance difference. But for a college student like me, I think socket939 is still having best bang for the buck, I think a lot of people are in the same boat as me. Why jump on to c2d bandwagon when you're in the boat with socket939 already.
I hope I didn't upset anyone, I'm not any fan boy at all, I'm just trying to get the most out of my hard earned partime money.

if you are refering to that ultra ram in your rig/sig(ddr400) pretty much price won't be dropping as almost all ram fabs have been switched over to ddr2..bite the bullet now..

I'm referring to any pair of 2x512mb ddr400, perferably Corsair. I know most manufaltures have switched over to ddr2, but won't they have they get rid of their old rusty ddr before doing so? Could that make the price go down again? I notice it's not just ddr, ddr2 are also having their prices jumped. Correct me if I'm wrong.

price usually will still go up(saw a stick of 256mb pc133 going for $40 ) so as supply(overabundance) goes away pricing goes up..ddr2 is just in such high demand due to C2D and am2 should see that drop 1st of the year but with Vista rolling thru it might not..you should id your ultra sticks to try to match up with any other 2x512 you are looking to get for best compatibility <edit typo>

This is great news, I see price drops for both ddr and ddr2. Hehe.
Someone should make a post about when is the best time to buy rams, instead of all threads recommending best ram for oc regardless or price. There are a lot of people with a budget to spend.

Notice the beginning of RAM rebates. The manufacturers have noticed the public's reluctance to buy their over-priced RAM.
Like I said before, buy what you need now and be happy.
Wait until RAM prices go down further. Your restrain is affecting RAM prices, for sure.

I havent bought for the past 2-3 months because of prices, but I've only seen them go up so far...

I really hope the Manufacturers are getting hit by slow sales... hopefully we can see prices like last spring soon.
