Now that the X800 XT is apparently retailing in the $450 range, how much will Nvidia drop their cards?

I hope to see GTs at $350 would be nice.

Gt was only good since the it was a $100 cheaper than the X800XT but since the X800XT is ~$450, i think its a better buy than the GT

It's a single slot nvidia 16 pipe card... that has the potential to be cheaper than the X800XT

i think its very likely that it will be either in the same price range or even more than the X800XT. the few sites that are taking preorders have them for ~$450

Then nvidia will loose another customer for ~8 months

oh forgot to mention, i bought my 9800pro 3 months before my FX5900 ..

Well if the 6800GT can offer higher performance with the new drivers and be around the same price range as the X800XT i'll still give it a shot.

with the MSRP rocket high,
It just reminds me of 3dfx during its glory days.

But at least we know that NVidia has a stronger and better marketing strategy and foundation.

So, we had the X800XT for $450 for how long? One day @ gateway or something before it sold out?

Do you think they will repeat that deal anytime soon?

I'm thinking that anyone who got in on that was very lucky, although it certainly would be nice if the X800XT stays @ $450.

Currently the X800Pro seems to be around $400. It the X800XT is only $50 more, then I think many people will just skip the Pro and go straight for the XT.

I'd say that Nvidia will need to have the 6800Ultra slightly less expensive than the X800XT (maybe $25 or so) in order to really compete.

The 6800GT will need to be about $100 less than the X800XT and about $50 less than the X800Pro (whichever is lower) in order to be successful.

I'm really hoping the 6800GT will be ~$350, but we'll see.

I'm expecting the GT to start @ $400 and the ultra to start @ $500, with the prices dropping depending on demand.

Around a day at gateway. An hour at zipzoomfly. You can still order from zip though to get this price, but you wont get your card for a couple weeks.

I don't think it will increase in price from here, since multiple stores are offering it for this price now.

I think that the prices will shakedown on both after a bit. It looks like eventually (maybe August/September) it will be easy to find the X800 Pro and 6800 GT for about $350, while the X800 XT and 6800 Ultra will be around $450. Right now, these deals on the XT seem to be a bit odd to me. For example, zipzoomfly has the XT for $439 and the Pro for $450 and $434. That kind of pricing structure just doesn't make sense. Certainly it's good for someone getting an XT (why would you bother getting the Pro?), but it doesn't make sense.

Edit: BTW, cdw.com has had the Pro for $389 and the XT for $459.51 for about two weeks now, who knows when you'd actually get your card though.

Actually, you can't add the XT to your cart at zip. The best you can do is request a back in stock alert.

Yeah, assuming the X800 XT price is set in stone because of a couple of stores having deals (which sold out at such incredible speed, the price obviously doesn't match the demand and should be higher--basic economics) is a bit silly. I'd assume X800 XT $475 in volume, $450 on sale. Once the 6800 Ultra starts to flush through the channel (probably in a couple of weeks) I'm hoping stores will sell it for dirt cheap too

Not holding my breath though. My theory is around the end of June - beginning of July, when supply can finally somewhat keep up on both sides, the price shakedown will be around:

6800 Ultra - $500
X800 XT - $460
6800 GT - $400
X800 Pro - $380

Another two months into August/September it's anybody's guess. Would depend on whether drivers materialize from either side to increase speeds, which would increase the relative value of that card, etc. Would even depend on whether PCI-X versions start showing up and how demand splits between the two; one or the other versions could get cheaper at that launch.

Personally I'm waiting for a PCI-X 6800 Ultra unless I see something compelling to change my mind before PCI-X 6800U's become available. I figure I'll have to put off building my new system from the end of this month to the end of August or so to get a PCI-X card, but I'd really rather not buy a >$400 graphics card I'll never be able to move into a new system by next year (or be forced to build a system with some hackneyed AGP support that runs off the PCI33 bus, yuck).

VIA chips are supposed to support real AGP as well as the 16x PCI-Express slot...but yeah it would probably be better to wait if you don't really need a new card within the next month or three.
