My printer just stopped printing. I've tried reinstalling drivers, changed the
cable, put in a new cartridge and gone thru multiple head cleanings and still
it will not print. I'm running 98 and Canon BJ2000.

Any help please?
Thanx

Can't remember, although its been a while.
If so, is it worth it to replace the print head
or get a new printer?

Did you go into device manager (control panel>system>device manager), and under "ports" check to make sure there isn't a conflict with your printer port (lpt1) and some other device?

I don't know what the prices are in your area but the printhead cartridge usually includes fresh tanks so the actual price of the printhead itself is not that bad. I had a bjc4200 and when the head needed replaced it was the same as if the tanks had gone dry. Output just started to disappear. Canon usually recommends the head be changed after about 2000 pages.

You'll have to do a price comparison for your area but in my case, I found it worthwhile to replace the printhead. The bjc4200 was still in great condition and served my needs so I saw no point in replacing it just for that reason.

With everything else that you've tried (such as reinstalling the drivers, multiple cleanings, etc.) I can't think of anything else that it might be.

When you say it is not printing. Do you mean there is no mechanical action, or do you mean it is mechanically trying to print and no ink is coming out?

It goes thru trying to print but no ink is dispersed at all.
And there are no conflicts.

On that style of Canon printer (if it's the same as the 4200), in its home position, the printhead assembly is tucked behind the right side of the case. To change the cartridge, you have to press a button to move the printhead assembly to the center position. From this I assumed its working mechanically.

Printhead cleanings are done through software so it must be getting a signal (which also means the cable was probably ok). Reinstalling the drivers should have corrected any corrupted files. fresh tanks were installed. No other device conflicts.

I may be missing something but the only thing left that I can see is the printhead needs to be replaced.
