Hey Guys. Ive built multiple computers and have never had a problem I wasnt able to solve myself. There is always a first though! Here is the build im trying to put together:

BIOSTAR GEFORCE 6100-M7 Micro ATX AMD Motherboard
AMD Sempron 64 2600+ Palermo 800MHz FSB Socket 754
HITACHI Deskstar 7K80 SATA 80G
Patriot Signature Series 1GB (2 x 512MB) 184-Pin DDR SDRAM DDR 400 (PC 3200)

After pugglin everything in, and powering the comp up, all the fans start, the monitor light turns on green, but nothing shows up on the screen, and the screen goes on standby shortly after. I am not even getting the mobo screen. no beeps, no lights on motherboard... nothing!
I have noticed two strange things... first of all, the cd-rom wasnt giving any feedback or responding at all when turninng the comp on. I unplugged the IDE cable from the mobo and powered the comp back up, and got response from the cd-rom. What could be the reason for this?

The second thing I have noticed is that the main power plug on the mobo (where you plug in the powersupply cord) has a total of 24 pins. The power supply plug only has 20 pins... My other comps also only use 20 pin clips. I havent built anything in about a year, so maybe this is something new that I am not familiar with? This system is driving me nuts, I hope one of you gurus can help me out here!

Thanks in advanced!

2 things, first are you using the 20 -> 24pin converter for the psu? E.G. you have the psu connected to the mobo so that it is using ALL of the pings right..heh. Assuming the answer to the above is yes, then I would say bad Mobo. CPU and Mobo are really the only two things fatal to POST. I've seen ESD's motherboards exhibit similar behavior.

I dont have a 20 -24 adapter, but I have been told that it isnt needed...maybe the guy was wrong? Are you 100% sure that you need an adapter for a 20 pin psu to work with a 24 pin mobo? Thx for your help.

no, you dont need the adapter. did you plug in the square 12v connector, that has 4 pins, but isnt a molex into the mobo?

There are so many things that could cause this. Try resetting the bios by removing the bios jumper for a few seconds and then replacing it. If that doesn't work, remove the motherboard and make sure you didn't put in an extra standoff where one does not belong. You can also try reseating the CPU.

ok, Ive changed the motherboard... changed the memory, changed the CPU, changed the the psu, the only things I havent touched are the HDD and the DVDrom, and the case. I even started the motherboard outside of the case to make sure it wasnt shorting. I have also cleared de CMOS through the jumpers. I still get the same problem. No video output whatsoever. he fans light up, but thats it. If anyone has any suggestions I would greatly apreciate them... im sure you have all run across a situation like this and know how frustrating it gets!

are you using onboard video? if so have you tried using a different monitor? just to rule out the possibilty that the monitor is dead. if you are using a video card, switch out the card with another card to see if that works.

otherwise i have no other alternatives for you.

good luck
