Problem copying CD's

Just got the TDK VeloCD 12x burner. Been trying to copy a few CD's using FujiFilm 80min CDR's(the good ones). Using Nero it goes thru the entire copy process, but the resultant CD is garbage. When I can read a copy, Win98 is telling me all it sees is a 1K audio file on the CD. Seems I can drag/drop individual files just fine, but it just won't produce a readible copy of a CD. Any ideas?

This may have to with what you are doing with the session. Things rings a bell from way back... I think it is because the session is left open, or the disk is left open. If it's an audio cd it has to have the session closed, I think...

The session does have to be closed but, the disc should still readable by widows if the disc is left open. You need to close the disc to work in alot of CD players.

Hmmm...I didn't think there was an open/close session when copying CD's, only when using the burner to move individual files...like using the burner as like a floppy or zip. Using Nero to copy CD's, there isn't that many options you can select..and I don't remember seeing any options for session type as there is when using Nero to drag/drop files for burning. I'll look again tonight when I get home.

What chipset is it on your motherboard, several VIA ones have incompatibilities with some DMA functions of CD Writers, I had this problem when I was using a MVP3 chipset, i turned dma off and it worked fine.

I am thinking it may be something like this as I was able to drag and drop but not copy cd's, it just kept either making coasters or coming up with an error in test mode.

I have a 440BX chipset on my motherboard (Asus P3BF). Until I enabled DMA(via a jumper on the back of the burner) I got errors while copying when dragging/dropping files. Guess I can try disabling the DMA when copying CD's. I really hope I don't have to disable to copy CD's and enable to drag/drop. What a pain that would be.

Well it seems I can copy CD's just fine if I use the VeloCD as the source & destination CD. I read a post on TDK's website that the only way that Nero will do a bit by bit CD copy is if it's done this way. Seems strange that you can't use a different source CD with Nero. I really like Nero, but I think I'll try Adaptec's Software and see if it will let me copy CD's with my regular 40x CD-ROM as source and the VeloCD as destination.

I've been using Adeptec's software myself and haven't had any problems. Also, make sure your source drive and your burner are on different IDE controllers. It helps if the OS doesn't have to switch between which drive has the controller.
