I know similar questions may have been asked, but I searched the forums and couldn't find a solution for this one:
I got a new 200GB HDD (it's OEM so no PCI IDE controller card). I'm trying to connect it to a Gigabyte GA-SINXP1394(GA-8SQ800 Ultra2) motherboard which has an O/B ITE 8212 RAID chip, but when I try to format it in Windows (200GB partition) it gets stuck or stalls on 68% (which is roughly 137GB).
Hardware support: The RAID BIOS utility correctly detects the HDD size, which leads me to believe it has support 48 bit LBA (137GB+ HDDs).
Software support: Windows also correctly detects the HDD size. I've made sure my software settings are correct, according to articles from Microsoft/WD. I have WinXP SP1, latest ATAPI driver, and 48 bit LBA support is enabled in the registry. I even ran the Maxtor big_drive_enabler.exe. I am using the latest RAID drivers from GigaByte, and latest mobo BIOS (wasn't able to find any RAID BIOS patches).
So, what could cause this? Am I missing something? Could it be that the RAID controller doesn't support 48 bit LBA drives (even tho it detects the HDD size correctly)? Is this RAID chip known to support 48 bit LBA?
