Problem OCing ti4200

I have an Albatron Geforce4 ti4200 8x agp card and I was trying to overclock it some last night. The default settings are 250/513. I was able to get the clock to run at 300 easily with no problems using AquaMark 3. I then put the clock setting back to default and started raising the memory speed. I was only able to get it up to about 138 before it started giving artifacts and very unstable performance.

As much as I have heard about ti4200's being great overclockers, this doesn't seem right to me. Most people I have heard from have at least gotten the memory setting up to 600.

Is there something wrong with the card possibly? Also, do you have to keep the clock/memory speed ratio, because I was getting much better scores with a high clock speed and keeping my memory at default? Thanks

If your card runs fine at stock speeds then there is nothing wrong with your card. All cards will overclock to different levels based on many factors. You can start by looking at the numbers on the memory and then going to the memory manufacturers site or use google to find out what it is rated for. Also, take note that the 64 MB cards usually had faster memory than their 128 MB counterparts on the Ti cards. I used to have an ABIT Ti4200-8x 64MB Non-OTES that would do 300/600 with no problems but I can't remember what exact memory it had on it.

300 on core is a decent OC. 600 on mem is unlikely. If you can get 530 on mem, be happy. At 300/530 you would notice a nice improvement over stock.

Be happy with that, my old Ti 4200 would start artifacting at 5 mhz over stock.

Mine got to 300/620, but kind of died...won't work in Windows now. Runs X perfectly
