Problem powering on the computer

Thanks for reading. Lately, I have been having recurring problems powering on my computer. I would have to press the power on button on my CPU more than a couple of times before it actually comes on. The first few times would be a slight flicker on the monitor, a short beep and then it powers down. After about 5-10 tries, it will finally come on. But when it does come on, it works fine. Any advice on what I can do to salvage this problem? I don't recall changing anything major except I recently downloaded a program called Bearshare (peer to peer) which I later uninstalled but the problem persisted. Any help is much appreciated! Check the plugs

I dont know much about how shorts can happen in computers, but maybe theres a short behind the button you press? Causing it to not supply the needed power? Just sugestions...

heh, last time I had that problem, I hadn't installed my CPU

even simpler solution...sounds like your power switch (ie the button your press) may be bad...to test it..open up case and plug in the reset switch to the connectors designated for power switch...start with the simple stuff first and it will save you some headaches...lots of folks on the forums have an itchy trigger finger for hardware repair

Thanks for all your advice! I will check it out this evening to see if the button is faulty. Maybe all I need to do is get a new case eh?
