Problem with battlefield vietnam

Ok, I scanned the official battlefield vietnam thread but couldn't seem to find anything directly answering my problem, so here goes:

When I go to run bfv, the splash screen comes up, the screen goes black, and then boom:


bfvietnam.exe has encountered an error and must close.

Hmm, ok.
I know there are lots of people having a similar problem, just doesn't seem to be one readily apparent solution.
I'm currently running windows xp pro, have a radeon 9700 with the latest catalysts. Anyone know if switching to the omega drivers will help offhand?

Any help that can be offered is greatly appreciated.

I use omega's and have been playing fine after tweaking.

I think you usually hear sound after that, could be a DirectX or SB sound card driver issue?
I use my Mobo's Nforce Soundstorm.

My Rig Spec's for reference:
Barton 2500+ @ 3200+
Abit NF7-S @ 200 FSB
1 GB of PC3500
Sapphire 9800 PRO 128 MB w/ Omega Drivers
SoundStorm
Windows XP Pro w/ all updates

Change:
renderer.allowAllRefreshRates 0
to:
renderer.allowAllRefreshRates 1

I forgot about that also but usully doesn't that problem just kick you back to the Desktop with no error?
