Problem with Intel Firmware Update

I have built two systems with Intel X25-M 160 Gb SSD's . Both on Gigabyte MB's. One is a 775 with an E8500 overclocked to 4.25. The other is an X58 with a i7-720 overclocked to 3.8 Gh. Intel has put out an update to the firmware which I burned to CD. The 775 system updated fine. When I tried to update the X58 computer it said that there was no SSD connected or it was disabled. I don't understand why it didn't see the SSD. Both computers run fine though the X58 does some things strange. Help please.

Outside of your detection issue, as a matter of safety, I wouldn't overclock or run anything out of spec during the firmware update. Don't even undervolt... I learned my lesson and luckily Intel didn't ask too many questions and was nice enough to replace the drive for me.

No, he means change your BIOS setting from AHCI/RAID to IDE/Compatibility. Then re-attempt firmware flash.

I went into the BIOS and under( Integrated Peripherals ) (Onboard Sata/IDE Control Mode ) it is set to IDE The available settings are IDE,ACHI or Raid /IDE.

Well for a start if you want to get the maximum benefit from your SSD, you should really be running in AHCI mode. AHCI has several performance benefits over IDE.

You could still set your BIOS to AHCI, reboot with the firmware update CD in and see if it works. It should, though it should work under IDE.

After flashing firmware and rebooting, reboot back into BIOS, change back to IDE or your OS won't load.

In the long run though you will want to look at either switching over to AHCI via the registry hack or reinstalling in AHCI mode fresh.
