My job doesn't offer insurance and I can't afford to go to a doctor or the hospital unless it's absolutely necessary. I will preface this by saying I don't remember anything happen that would explain what's going on, not saying there wasn't. But I didn't have a moment that explains it, it just sort of came out of nowhere.
One day at work maybe 3 weeks ago the cash register drawer hit my hand between my pinky and wrist. It doesn't open hard or fast or anything, but when it came in contact with hand I jumped from the pain. Totally caught off guard I cautiously touched the area and did feel something, but it wasn't anything like what I had felt a minute prior. I was at work so I tried to forget about it, and I didn't notice any pain again the rest of the day. Later that night I barely banged that part of my hand on my steering wheel and the sharp shooting pain came back. It only lasted maybe a few seconds. I figured it was probably my pinky was sprained. So I was just careful for the next few days. A couple of times I did hit something and it would hurt.
It's been about 3 weeks now and outside from random thing here and there it's not really bothering me. But when I hit something just right it seems to be as bad as it was the 1st day. If I try to make my hand into a fist when the pinky gets about half way it just locks up. If I squeeze to make the fist it sort does a jump/pop. It's not an audible pop, but I can definitely feel it jerk. Trying to make a fist results in what I'd say is discomfort, it doesn't hurt but it takes effort to make it. And when I unball it about 1/2 way it locks up again.
Now there's never been any swelling, but being sprained was the only thing I could think of that seemed logical to me. If it's a sprain I'm not worried about it still giving me problems. But I'm wondering if there's anything else here I'm overlooking for what it could be? One thing that's confusing me is if it's a sprain why are there times when I smack it on something and it doesn't bother me at all.
