guys i don't know where else to go for some answers, and ppl here are always knowledgable

with TV-out on my ati aiw 9600xt, i am usin PS2 or whatever the yellow composite is called
it shows up on my tv finally, but some movie files don't work - the place where the picture should be is like just about black, but it's kinda purply too - basically nothing

it seems like mpeg's work, but they're the only ones - can anyone suggest what to do to get the rest of the files to work in tv-out?? i just got the latest divx, i dunno what else to do

1024x768 on both tv and monitor, cards awesome, just want to fix this problem

Either you're missing codecs, or you need to set the TV-out as the 'primary' display (or set it to mirror the primary). You can't display overlay video on the secondary monitor.

Probably an Overlay issue. I don't have any ATI cards anymore but from memory you have to set the overlay so that its either mirrored, or you set the TV as the primary display. All this is done in the drivers.

thanks for the help, but i don't know how to change the overlay??

also, it does show some video on the tv - a few of my mpeg movies show up, but the rest of the files don't

also, my counter-strike shows up perfectly on the tv

go to display properties, then settings then advanced, then displays and then make the tv the primary monitor. This worked for me on my 9600 non-pro using s-video. hope it helps

awesome, appreciate it a lot - if i set them to both be primary in that tab, my monitors refresh rate drops to 60mhz -- will that be harmful? its normally set to 85 - but when i do tv as primary and monitor as secondary, the video shows up on the tv but not the monitor, but the refresh rate on the monitor stays 85mhz!! go figure - but i think it worked, just wondering if the refresh of 60mhz is bad for the monitor? and if that's even accurate, cause in another tab the "monitor" tab it's set to 85, so i dunno if which one is right

I am not sure why it drops the refresh rate when it is playing the video on the tv and the monitor. I think that the video card might not be able to handle two videos playing at the same time at a high refresh rate. A lower refresh rate should prolong the life of your monitor but some people find that lower refresh rates cause eye strain.

The TV-out cannot display at more than 60Hz. If you "set them both as primary" (that is, you set the monitor and TV-out to mirror each other), obviously both of them have to run at 60Hz. When you run them independently, the monitor can run at 85 (or whatever) and the TV-out will stay at 60. It's not harmful to run our monitor at 60Hz (why on earth would you think that's harmful?)

You can only display video overlays on the "primary" monitor. This can be *either* the TV or monitor (or both, if they mirror each other), but if you set one as primary and one as secondary, the one set as 'secondary' will not display hardware-accelerated video properly. The reason some MPEGs work is that they're probably using a software codec (and you can force some players to always run in a software mode). 3D graphics output (games, etc.) will work on both.

Usually for Radeon TV-out, I just use "Theater Mode".

"Theater Mode" works VERY differently than just mirroring the main display. If all you want to do is to display fullscreen video output on the second monitor, it will work, but you won't see *anything* but the video on the second screen while an overlay is running.
