This has been my first time building a computer, so if there is an obvious answer to my dilemma, that's the reason why I didn't catch it.
I built the computer using an AMD socket 939 processor, WD 200 MB hd, MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum mobo, 512 Corsair XMS memory, two opticals, and a floppy drive, inside a Antec case with a Ultra 500w powersupply. I booted it up with my friends crappy video card just to work with BIOS and check the hardware connections, and everything seemed fine. I didn't install any drivers, nor an OS.
Today, my video card, the XFX 6800GT, finally came in the mail. I was obviously quite excited, and installed the card into the mobo, and then connected my monitor into the port. But when I turned it on, I keep hearing this incredibly high pitched sound, and the monitor didn't turn on. I turned off the computer, unplugged the power cord, and disconnected the card from the mobo, and tried turning it on again (after plugging the power cord of course). No sound.
Excluding a faulty video card (at least for now), I can only surmise that I missed a step or something. Any suggestions?
