System Configurations (As much as I remember)
AMD Duron 1.2Ghz
1280 MB PC 133 Mushkin RAM
WinXP Home Edition
60GB HDD (NTFS)
Internal Zip Drive
Generic 10/100 Ethernet (Realtek drivers) - Cat 5 Crossover Cable
Pioneer 16X DVD-ROM
Plextor 16/10/40A CD-RW
Soundblaster Live Value!
Generic 56k Modem
GeForce2 MX 400 32MB Video Card
Intel Celeron 333Mhz
512MB PC133 RAM
Win98SE
15GB HDD (FAT32)
Generic 10/100 Ethernet (Realtek drivers) - Cat 5 Crossover Cable
Creative Labs 52X CD-ROM
Soundblaster AWE 64
Generic 56k Modem
Voodoo 3 Video Card
I was wondering if at least some of the problems were because I was trying to network a NTFS (XP Home) and a FAT32 (98SE).
This was supposed to be a home network for my parents. I have had one set up in the past, but they were having problems with both systems, so I ordered the parts, and fixed the systems separately, and did clean installs of the OS.
I was trying to setup ICS, though that isn't of major concern because they both have modems, it would just allow them to both check their mail at once, rather than one dialing in, hanging up and then the other logging on.
When I set it up, the WIN98SE computer saw itself (and intermittently the XP system) in the workgroups. But the XP system would never see itself or the other system. Even when the 98SE system could see the XP system it couldn't access any of the information on it. The basic reasons for wanting the network are LAN gaming and transferring files between the systems as only one has a ZIP & CD-RW.
Any advice on what I am doing wrong in setting up this network? Any additional information needed?
Thanks
