I'm working on building my first PC with my buddy and we are running into problems when trying to post. We have troubleshooted the issue many different ways including removed all the unnecessary components. We are now thinking that it may be a compadibility issue between the memory and the motherboard.

The motherboard is the ASUS P5B-E LGA 775 P965 Express and my memory is
OCZ S.O.E 2 GB (2x1GB) 240 pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR667

If there is anyone that could help I would appreciate it, I dont want to start returning items that may not be defective. If anymore information is needed let me know.

Thanks

Bill

1. Clear BIOS

2. Boot up with one stick

Should boot up now.

You do not enter BIOS to clear it. Shut down your machine then remove your power plug. Do you have your manual handy, use it to locate the clear bios pin. Remove the battery, move the bios pin adapter from pin 1-2 to 2-3 then replace it back in pin 1-2 (default) in a few seconds

Reinstall battery. Now reboot with one stick.

Your memory is rated at 2.1V. your MB boot up with 1.8V VDimm.

Let me know how you make out.

Thank you for working with me here and excuse my lack of knowledge on this stuff. I did clear the BIOS and still there was nothing. I have been reading up on the problem on other forums and others say that the memory is the issue.

I just ordered a cheap 1.8v memory stick to use to enter the BIOS where I can then adjust the voltage to the memory. Is there anything that you would suggest I do in the mean time? If I get into the BIOS what voltage should I bump it to? 2.2v?

Thanks again.

I have used several different types of memories with the Asus P5B-E. I did not have any problem with any one of them. I do not have OCZ however.

I am real surprised that what I suggested did not work for the OCZ SOE. It has worked for me many times in the past. Any chance you can RMA them?

I would suggest G. Skill PK or HK series. If you want inexpensive memory then the Super Talent DDR-667 at about $120 are the best buy at this time. People reported great results with the ST.

OCZ did have a lot of problems with the Intel p965 CHIPSET. But I thought they have solved most of their problems by now.

If you keep the OCZ then you should use the recommended VDimm which is 2.1V to begin with.

Do you want to OC your rig? Then you will need to tinker with the various parameters.

I had the same problem with my P5B-E and also had OCZ memory rated at 2.0v. I also thought that was the problem so I ordered a cheap stick of ram. When it came in a few days later I popped it in and nothing changed, light came on all the fans spun up but nothing on the monitor

So I took the mobo out of the case and disconnect everything but CPU/HSF, ram, and GPU and still nothing. So as a last resort I took off the HSF and reattached it and bingo problem solved.

I was using an aftermarket HSF which required a replacement back plate with four mounting screws bolted through to a retention bracket on the HSF. What I believe happened was that I tightened the screws too much causing the board to bow just enough that the CPU pins were not making proper contact in the socket

So try remounting your HSF

So, I RMAed the MB and now it posts. Now the trouble that I'm running into is that my USB keyboard doesnt work.

I get the following error

CMOS Setting Wrong
Overclocking failed! Please enter setyup to re-configure your system
Press F1 to run Setup
Press F2 to load default values and continue.

MY keyboard isnt working so I am not able to choose either. Any thoughts? Thanks for your time.

Had the same problem-- my P5B dlx came with 0507 bios, flashed to 09xx(11?) and the problem went away. Found it in a post on one of the forums, if not in here somewhere.
