Problems with onboard sound -- hissing!

Hey guys, I just got my new computer up and running. I am using the onboard sound from the Abit BH7 -- Realtek AC '97. Music sounds good, but there is a constant hissing that is pissing me off.

Any ideas on what to do? This is driving me nuts.

Get a sound card? Maybe some kind of inteference is getting in somehow.

Check your mixer for un-needed inputs that may be cranked up, especially microphone.

Definitely mute all the inputs you don't need in the volume control, including ones that might be hidden at the moment.

I've had this experience with a computer with onboard Realtek AC '97 sound myself, I think that turning down the master volume and turning up the wave volume can also reduce the hiss. However, I could never completely get rid of the hiss.

Some mobo's design causes onboard sound "hiss" problems. Also, what speakers to you have connected to them?

My K7S5a's onboard sound caused noticeable hissing.
