Update #10
Leak Test 2! The computer side.

I started this leek test last night and so far so good. Hope it stays that way. Here are some pictures of my Frankenstein creation. Enjoy!

The pump is my brothers, hes letting me use it. I didn't think it would work very well but I was surprised how strong it pumped the water. There was one heck of a current in there!

Very cool work. I enjoy reading these custom build diary threads.

Two comments:
1. No offense, but a leek = vegetable like a green onion, leak = water escaping
2. How much mineral oil content can fish handle in their tank ... lol For that matter, is there some way of detecting water content in mineral oil just in case there is a leak? It would be cool if there was some (cheap) meter that could automagically tell you the water content of your mineral oil bath.

Pretty sure you would notice, oil and water don't mix as they say.

P.S You want to get worried when you come home and notice a guppy nibbling your CPU

Thanks for the clarification. I honestly never heard of the vegetable leek. Now I sound like a dummy All the spelling mistakes have been fixed D:

HAHA yeah no kidding. That's when you know something is leaking.
I should notice if the water mixes into the computer side because it would make a puddle on bottom of the tank.

Cool idea. I'm curious how it'll turn out.

Thanks

It has been a week since I started this last leak test and so far nothing has escaped except for evaporated water. There are a few small things I would like to do yet before I submerge my hardware. The main thing I am waiting on now is to buy a 1155 CPU D:

Now if I'm not mistaken, hard drives can't be submerged in mineral oil. Are you planning to use an SSD?

That is correct. They cannot be submerged. At the moment I am debating whether to use the SSD in my main rig, buying a new SSD, or just using a HDD. The one in my main rig is new, its the corsair force GT 60GB one. I dont feel like dishing out another $100+ dollars in storage

I would definitely go with an SSD in your new rig. It's probably going to be very quiet and the noise of a hard drive might be noticeable and very annoying.

Alright guys, I am very sorry but I lost interest in this project a long time ago but recently had the urge to tinker with it. My main problem was that the 90 degree plastic barbed elbows were leaking. I need to use copper or brass fittings. Can someone find ones that have long thread so they can go all the way through the side wall?

This would work perfect but its not a 90 degree.....

Here's some pix before I took all the components out.
