Promise Ultra ATA Controller Question.

Ok if I go and buy a controller and I want to do the following, will this work?

I want to have 2 Hardrives on my Abit KT7 First IDE Channel
Then a DVD-Rom and a IDE CD-R Burner on the 2nd IDE Channel
Then one more Hardrive for storage etc on my Promise Controller.

As far as I know, your idea will work. On the other hand, I'd find a way for your burner to be on it's own channel.

Well if my burner has burn proof it shouldn't be a problem right? Also a DVD-Rom and CD burner uses hardly any bandwidth at all... I don't think I should worry about slow down... Should I?

I am running a setup much like that with the Promise controller, only I have a Zip250 on my controller instead of a hard drive. I have a TDK VeloCD (it has burnproof) and a Pioneer 10X DVD Slot on my secondary channel, and they work fine. I have had no problems with my CD drives to date.

Burn proof or not I highly suggest you put both drives on different IDE channels. Sure they don't take up alot of bandwidth, but the channel can only access one drive at a time, and if windows f*ucks up the channel queue then you will have a coaster, burn proof or not.

I would recommend you put your drive with your OS on the ultra controller because that will be your fastest channel (if your drive is ATA100).
