I use weber for my charcoal, looking at getting a propane one now. What other brands are good? I keep seeing Charbroil on sale at HD for like $199. Weber I'm looking at is about $499. Big difference in price so I'm assuming quality as well. I don't think I'd go higher than $500 for a propane grill.

Everything I have seen shows that Weber grills will be much more durable. Thicker sheets of metal used, more durable ignitors and longer part availability etc.

You might want to see if there are any used webers on craigslist you could rehab. I've seen people put a little elbow grease into them and after about $100-150 for the grill and parts\cleaner they have a nice weber grill

I don't think the Charbroil commercial line is that bad. I got one before I wanted a weber and its held up fairly well but their cheaper lines suck ass

I have a Weber Genesis gas grill. It's probably 10 years old now and I have moved with it once. It's the one that has a plastic table extension. It's tough as nails and no part of it has rusted!!!! The only issue I have with it is there is a small spot in the front corner of the grill where food cooks hotter than any other part of the grill... This is the area where gas enters. It came with ceramic grates. I had to replace the flavorizer bars once, but I replaced with with stainless steel flavorizer bars that are thicker....

Charbroil is shit. It's sold at walmart. You don't see Weber at walmart, there is a reason for this. Weber also stands behind their product, they have excellent support and have been around forever. My mom had a simple dome based charcoal weber when I was growing up. She upgraded to a charcoal weber with a charcoal basket and mini lp tank to start the coals.

And another thing I got my genesis for $150 on craigslist. Look on craigslist you can get them super cheap. I don't care too much for the all stainless steel models because they are more expensive for nothing.

If you are happy with weber quality then stay with weber. I have a weber propane grill that I bought second hand from craigslist for $75, an absolute steal. Best propane grilll I have ever used. It stays outside all the time (under cover) and never rusts. Gets very hot and puts great sear marks on the food.

I have a cheapo charcoal grill from Lowes that works welll but I might pony up for a weber when that one rusts out.

I fig'd Charbroil was crap. How about Brinkman? Also, do these things typically go on sale around fall time? I mean, I always see them displayed at HD, but is fall/winter a better time to buy them just for out of season sales?

How often do you plan to use your grill and what do you plan to use it for? If you can answer that question, it'll help you narrow down your purchase.

I purchased the Home Depot exclusive edition of the spirit E-210 Webber because I plan to use it as a replacement for my kitchen stove. I like to cook lots of food once or twice a week and when you cook that amount of food, the entire house tends to smell. In addition to that, the Home Depot exclusive version of the Webber comes with a specially designed grill. The grill is interchangeable with other Webber products such as a Wok, Griddle, and a few other things. Basically, it can do everything my Kitchen can do without having to stink up the house.

If you don't plan to use it as often, you can go with some other brand.

I want a Weber Genesis but man they're expensive.

nice grilles! but yeah, very pricey. the least expensive stainless model (s-210) is only a 2 burner, for $450+! step up to the genesis s-310 and it's $900.

i guess the alternative is to go thru $100-200 "cheapos" every couple years.

Brinkman is also crap like charbroil. I've used both and they only last about 2-3 years. Bought a weber spirit 3 years ago and it looks brand new (stays outside under a cover). Nothing has rusted out. Started to get a little rust on the flavorizer bars, but that is normal and they are easily available. The body of the grill and the grates are rust free.

I don't know about Brickman. I'm thinking I saw some of their grills in K-mart etc... I think they may sell some high end grills and low end....

I can't speak to buying stuff like that in the store because honestly I would always buy stuff like that on craigslist. This is what I have below....

http://washingtondc.craigslist.org/nva/app/4647573172.html

That is propane, has a cabinet underneath for storage. What's nice about the spirit is the bottom of the grill has a funnel like device that goes to a small pull out pan. You would buy Weber pan liners and dump those liners out when the grease fills up. The pan itself is maybe the size of a small cigar box...

Brinkman is hit or miss. I have a friend with a brinkman smoker. Its old and while it didnt rust, it just performed poorly and had bad airflow that would not support a long smoke. He had to mod it extensively, drill holes, install a gasket around the lid, better thermometer and mod the charcoal and water pans. now it smokes great but why couldnt they do that from the factory?

Ive always been satisfied with weber products and they work great from the time you open the box. If a friend of yours has a brinkman grill, ask if you can try it.

I'd use it 2-3 times/wk for sure. I already use the charcoal at least once or twice a week but after work, there are times I don't want to wait for the charcoal so I cook in the house.

I can't comment on the longevity of Charbroil, but assuming they are crap because they are sold at Walmart is kind of stupid. Btw, Weber is also sold at Walmart. From what I've seen of the Charbroil, which is the display models at Lowes / HD, they look fine, but I wouldn't expect a lot out of them due to how cheap they are.

Personally, I'd go for the Weber, but that based entirely on the assumption they are still of the quality that everyone who has had theirs 10+ years raves about.

I have a Weber Genesis. They are expensive, but it's a quality grill that we use constantly and it's easy to find replacement parts if you need them. I also have a griddle for it - love those breakfasts from the grill!

I'll take a look at the Genesis. I was looking at the Weber Spirit models. I think I'll stick to a weber though. I'd like to make a good purchase on something I won't be replacing in 2-3 years. I've had my weber charcoal grill for about 7 yrs and it's still going strong. No rust or anything yet.

I used to have a Spirit E-310, it was decent too. I ended up giving it to my in-laws when we got the Genesis.

I am still using the weber grill that I bought in 2002, my cheap friend that won't pay the premium for a weber is on his 8th-9th gas grill now. I've seen brands like Coleman, Martha Stewart, Charbroil, etc at his place, with all the money he spent already, he could've gotten himself 2 Weber grills.

After resisting for years and going through four grills in 9 years, I broke down and bought a Weber Genesis 330 a few months ago. Wish I would have bought it sooner. Awesome solid made grill, I love it. It has been a little difficult to get used to cooking on it since it gets WAAAAY hotter than every other POS grill I've ever owned. I'm figuring it out though as I cook things that I used to cook on the other grills.

Buy a Weber -

We're on 9yrs with our Genesis Silver. We did replace the grates that go over the flames but aside from that everything works and we grill 3-4x a week year around.

We had a Charbroil - crap, bought a Kenmore from Sears - crap.

They really are worth the extra money.
