I use WinProxy. I have read that using a proxy service has a tendency to alter you internal networks functionality. I play quake3 from a computer inside the network. If I format and reinstall windows and winproxy on the proxy computer one of 2 things happens. Either I can play multiplayer on servers on the internet and not on a local server on the proxy box, or I can play on the local server on the proxy box but not on the internet servers. Either way I can play on a local server on a box that is not the proxy server(a third machine on the network). I set winproxy up the same way everytime. and I am sure it is the same, same ips and everything. last time I could play on the internet but not on my server, even though I could put up a server and other people would play on it. now I can play on the local server on the proxy box and so can people on the internet, but I cant play on servers on the internet. Both times all normal functionality was available through the proxy, I can surf the web, use external SMTP, ftp and everything. Any idea why my computers hate me?

Try other proxy-software (I recommend Sygate) and tell us whether you've still those problems.

ok, new question. lets say I go with ICS under windows 2000. When the 2000 box boots up, the nic for my roomates computer shows the cable is disconnected, as he is the only computer on it(he is on the other side of the house so I used phoneline network for his machine), when he turns on his machine, will ICS automatically allow him access to the internet? I am wondering this as it was a concern with windows 2000 with winproxy. winproxy wouldnt proxy his machine if it was not on at startup, but if it was on at startup and he shut it off, it would keep it proxied if he turned it back on at a later date. I know running a phoneline network and a regular network is a pain, but it is necessary, this is not our house, and we are not allowed to run any wiring or drill any holes. Hell, my landlord has a cow when he comes into the bonus room and my 5 machines are churning away!

Thanks
