Morning ATers!
I've got a problem with my comp that has me perplexed. Recently, it started to lock-up or restart on its own. It would also restart, but not make it through POST. Sometimes I could "wiggle" the case and it would work fine, but after a day or so, it would lock up again. Now however, I try to power it up and the PSU fan and case fan will spin for a sec, then stop. The light on the mobo is on, so it is getting some juice.
Things I have tried:
-bought new PSU (300W) and replaced it. Nothing. The fan on the new PSU won't even spin. Again, light is on on the mobo. Took the new psu out, and tried to run it alone, and still nothing. The fan should spin at least right?
- put old PSU back in (200W) and now I get a "click" when I connect the power cord, but the machine will not start.
The setup:
1.4g celly on a slocket, 512 RAM, TI4200 vid, stock Dell mobo (Intel SEBXXXX series I think), 4X DVD-RW, 2 80g HDs
Thoughts?
Questions:
I know that Dell's are proprietary to an extent, but what are my options for changing out the board?
Can Dell's proprietary nature "disable" a non-Dell PSU?
Should I just tank it and build a new rig?
Thanks in advance
