PS2 mouse woes.

All of a sudden today my PS/2 mouse has started acting weird. It will move around the screen for a few seconds, then just stop, then will start moving again. I made sure the rollers were clean and everything's fine. I've tried 3 different PS/2 mice and they all do the same thing. Right now I'm using and OLD serial mouse and it works fine. I didn't install any new software or anything, so I don't have a clue what the problem is. The only thing I did notice was that I could hear a static-like sound through my speakers when I moved the PS2 mouse around. It does NOT make this noise since I plugged in this serial mouse. Anyone have any suggestions? I'm hoping that my company will let me run to Wal-Mart to get a USB mouse. <B>

AT or ATX mobo?
ATX might have a cable going from the bort to a pin header on the motherboard
the ps2 port is part of the super I/O chip and if you have hot swapped a ps2 device you can damage this chip

Did you sort this out? mine has just done exactly the same thing out of the blue!

I've never plugged the mouse or anything else in while my computer is on and it just died while surfing.

There I was, happily surfing the net when my PS2 mouse decides to throw a fit!

It starts pressing buttons all by itself, the mouse pointer stops and starts when you try to move it and phases in and out of reality, then the damn thing just ends by refusing to move and killing most of the OS.

I've tried resetting the computer and removing/reinstalling all drivers in normal and safe mode. The mouse will work ok for a while but then goes into psycho mode.

Funny thing is, when I swap the mouse over to serial everything works fine using the standard MS serial driver. The OS won't load however if I install the driver that came with my mouse which is required to use the third button.

Could this be a virus?
Is my mouse bust?
Has WinME messed up the registry and I'll have to do a re-install?
Can anyone help?

Thanks!
